So once you upgrade you can use those beautiful Leica lenses. I was really excited to use these lens options. There are other features for the upgrade as well but to me and likely for most the lenses are the big draw. I took the free trial knowing I would have to pay the monthly costs if I was satisfied. Sadly though it’s turned out to be Quite a disappointment. All you get in Aperture mode (upgrade) is aperture priority and af. No exposure compensation . No way to bypass auto if the exposure is wrong and you can’t even have manual exposure or manual focus. This is really, the Leica lens mode and the main reason for you to have to pay that princely sum. So I can’t manual focus those wicked lenses ? If I want manual focus and manual priority I have to flip back to the (upgrade photo mode). This has your 4 Standard magnification options. In the free version you don’t get mf or manual exposure, Just af and exposure compensation. In the free version (Aperture mode) you get aperture priority and the 28mm Leica lens only. Theres no way to zoom between the magnifications and past the highest in the photo mode either (digital zoom) my iPhone 15 pro max does a superb job in digital zoom. I would expect no DZ in the Leica lens mode as you’re duplicating the actual lenses. It would be handy to have it in the photo mode though. On the plus side, it’s a well laid out app, very comfortable to use. Conveniently placed features. Even with its short falls I find myself wanting to use this app most of the time. It’s not something worth paying for yet though in my opinion. It could be brilliant and worth the money. Leicas are for serious photographers, designed to work the old school way. This app should be no different and with all the basic but necessary features in their rightful places. “Thanks for giving us a free version to play with"👍🏻
Not quite there yet especially for steep subscription price
Aperture mode is what sets this app apart from other camera apps and is excellent, however, the focusing can be wonky and often doesn’t focus on the area you select. I tested the exact same subject/situation back to back with the iPhone stock camera app which performed as expected focus wise. For $100 yearly subscription (!!!) this should not be happening, pretty disappointing
Crashes all the time trying to store the phoo taken
I have full access to the photos, and lots of memory available. Latest version too.
You take the photo, the app shows it at the bottom left but can’t seem to record it in the library, even though I have full access enabled.
Leica Lux is a toy, in a good way.
iPhone is the camera I now carry. Leica Lux is an app to filter with it’s ability to limit to specific focal lengths and colour filters to limit colour ranges. I found I begin to think in a ‘Lux box’ when looking at potential subject matter.
I think photography is about what is included in the frame. Using Leica Lux parameters makes it necessary to move the camera in relation to the subject matter.
I like to use prime lenses with my cameras, I get better results working inside boundaries. I just get more satisfactory results because I have to work harder, I guess.
Use Leica Lux for a couple of weeks like I did. Lots of nice pictures. It’s the magic again.
Now it is my default photo camera app for iPhone
It is premium quality photo app. It really remind my my impression of the real Leica cameras (I had three and use Leica D-Lux now).
Great Potential
Hobbyist photographer - I’d heard of Leica cameras but didn’t know their prestige till I dove in with this app. App is OK for a a brand new release, some freezing here and there.
I’m excited to see the this app developed further. I’ve gotten some really great feedback on the photos I’ve taken from this application.
I do understand that a photographers photographer may have an actual Leica to compare this to and not agree, but so far I’ve been happy with it.
Still need improvements
The Leica looks seen pretty great; got some great photos with this app, yet the app is still buggy sometimes especially with the Aperture mode.
Price could be much lower or at least have a lifetime option. $99 per year just for a simulation and some computational bokeh? I don't think so. 😕
Simply ridiculous 😆
Leica’s cameras lenses and cameras are among the most expensive in the industry. One would expect an app that would inspire and motivate a new generation of photographers to at least consider Leica brand… While the app development costs may come as simple marketing expenses, these guys actually attempt to charge you a premium for the ability to apply default film LUTs and some bokeh emulation (thats not even available in the free version). Thats a VERY SHALLOW approach for a camera manufacturer with such a long history and cultural significance. This app is a TOY and marketing material at best, and not a tool that needs to be purchased.
Do not WASTE your time or money
Leica are so oblivious that they think this app is worthy of being a subscription based app, let alone they think it’s worthy of a ridiculous price of $99 a year is beyond insanity! Well the delete app option was cheaper than wasting a single second using this piece of overpriced junk!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!
Trop cher !
