Nice joke. It's just an idea to make money off the Leica brand by offering the ability to use manual mode and a few filters. Compact cameras don't sell as well anymore, so this can compensate. The app has a few basic options and, thanks to the font used, it really does hava a look Leica look, but it lacks the basic option of auto ISO in manual mode. Most opinions do not work properly like focusing… The Leica social marketing app is being done with our money. It should be free, at least with some Leica iPhone accessorie or a one-time payment!
After the last update doesn’t work properly… all filters are locked. The button simply doesn’t work.
I really like Leica color but $70 a year for ( basically) color looks seems extreme. Almost all apps have gone insane. Remember when an app like this would be 99 cents, it was yours, and they'd update it for years before asking for a upgrade fee? Yes, this app does color well and yes it simulates focal lengths ( lenses) pretty well but I just can't get over how little they're giving for the price. Oh wait, it's a " Leica" branded product....but wait..it's just an iPhone...hmmmmm
Love the way I can continue shooting in a way with this app when I’m away from my physical Leica. Love the familiar settings and filters. Some important app improvements needed: - better response time when taking photos. The lagging is not good. - suggest a haptic response when the shutter is triggered. Hard to notice the white outline around the viewfinder. With the above mentioned lag, hard to tell if my photo was actually taken. - suggest a slight better placement of the shutter button more similar to the Apple camera. Right now, slightly off and not as desirable. Thank you for choosing to make this app!!!!
how about leica owners get this for free?
I subscribed to Pro and could not access features. Restored the purchase… nothing (even though it told me I had restored successfully). Deleted the app, installed again… nothing. Deleted.
I’ve tried about half a dozen apps for my iPhones over the years. They have all offered something interesting or beneficial to my photography but few have actually stayed on my phone for consistent use. Most are far cheaper than this app and so I have never felt the need to evaluate my decision about its purchase nor review it for the general population interested in such small investments. This app isn’t like other previous apps. I’ve been using it now for approximately 3 weeks, and let trial period expire, forcing me into a subscription. I chose those words carefully, because if you want the look, the benefits and full use of this app, that’s the concession one must make. Why did I do this? Aside from the easy to use interface and results which few people can argue aren’t just beautiful for phone app pics, the app does one thing better than the native software. The shutter is fine (I read someone complaining about laggy), the interface is polished, freezing when rotating the phone after taking a snap - is fixed. But what was clear about the benefits of this app were those photos taken in Aperture mode. The gradation of the defocused portions of the focus plane are just better than those on the native app. The LUX app appears to capture the focal plane concept in a better way than the native app. It doesn’t just look like an object was cut from one photo and inserted into a blurry background image to create the illusion of depth - it appears to capture real depth. Photo styles, while gimmicky, are actually pleasant. The classic is a little noisy, simulating, I presume, paper grain. The app tends to retain highlights compared to the native app and if you want very punchy contrast for the sake of detail in the highlights, this isn’t the app for you. The monochromatic modes result in gorgeous photos without the fuss. The biggest complaint, there are always some, are the limits to the hardware: all Aperture photos are 12mp. Next complaint: when shooting using the simulated lenses (yes it’s just another way of describing focal length changes on the native app) the pics at 35mm settings are also 12mp. No 24 or 48 photos for the app at these settings. I presume based on my reading that this is a hardware limitation. The simulated lenses concept works. Each setting does capture some character to the photo via software manipulation and the effects, while obviously not able to fool anyone about the source of the photo being a Leica camera and professional
Even after upgrading to pro I get asked to upgrade to pro. I can click upgrade again or restore purchases but the nag doesn’t go away and the pro features aren’t accessible. I found quitting app and restarting it gave access to the pro features. Are they worth the cost? Way to early to tell, but fun at this point and cheaper than the real deal.
Other than one strange freeze, remedies by an update, I’ve enjoyed this app immensely. It has been most useful for the extreme apertures and vivid colors, so far. It’s actually pretty inexpensive compared to Leica gear.
