Very impressed with the design and completeness of this app, heads above anything else in this category!
Why social media buttons in the bottom of the app? Lots of Icons with no text/description what they do. Otherwise useful app.
A lot of people are impressed that this thing connects and does does what it’s programmed to - that’s because it isn’t wifi and they’re used to wifi trash smart home devices. The real problem with this app is it *looks* like one or two newer programmers (~5 years experience) wrote it how they thought it should work with little or no feedback from users taken into account and no experience with UI design. It was definitely not planned well before being built and it’s obvious where the developers’ early decisions trapped themselves into bad design. This is one of the most thoughtless UI designs I’ve seen in a long time.
Everytime you have to perform an edit on your watering plans, it takes DOZENS of steps. This is beyond annoying. Let's say the weather changes and you want to edit your 10 min into 5 min. Should be straightforward right? Well, count on the LinkTap team to make it a nightmare. Additionally, it doesn't adjust to Daily Time Saving, and several features are not clear, like "Eco" 1:1 --> will it water for 10 min, or will it water for 5? Overall, the watering system is good, but the app very disappointing and annoying on a daily basis.
The spigot that feeds the hose for my balcony is three full flights of stairs away. It also feeds a sprinkler that I have in my yard so leaving it on at all times isn’t feasible, neither is climbing up and down 6 flights just to water my palms. LinkTap has been an absolute knee saver, it works consistently, by far the most reliable smart home device I have and always has the strongest signal.
This product works and gives good wireless range. The app is what I’m rating here though. It’s UI has room for lots of improvement. To top it off if you open the app, your music stops. Drives me nuts for some reason lol. Should be an easy fix.
The app is functional, but the UI is very confusing, and woefully inadequate compared to mainstream iOS and Android OS apps. Most user feedback here seems consistent in that regard. The developers should take notice and redesign the UI.
I just set up the system and found the process to be pretty painless. It’s been operating in its programmed mode with no trouble.
I have never had a single instance where LinkTap didn’t do what I asked it to which is a lot more than I can say for the other automatic waters I have had. That being said the UI often causes me to ask it to do the wrong thing even though I’ve used it enough that I should be able to avoid the pitfalls. The best example is instant watering mode. There is a slider for on/off and then a button to enable instant mode. If you click enable it will default to enabling instant mode to the off setting! On the other hand if you set it to on then enabling it does what you would expect and even helpfully asks if you want to reenable the prior scheduled mode afterwards. There are many other features of the app that are similarly confusing to use but they really do sit atop an amazing piece of hardware combined with a lot of powerful features. You just have to be willing to stumble your way through an incredibly modal and confusing interface.
