The sheer amount of ads present on the home page (alone with other issues) cause even my brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max to get hot, laggy, and use 10% of the entire battery in 20 minutes. Absolutely unfit for purpose, and I’d argue with that level of power draw it’s almost a virus. That’s not to mention the incredibly low quality drivel that populates this news app - the boss of Reach (the parent company of the paper) said that reader engagement and the quality of articles did not drive revenues as much as volume of content”, and further went onto say that “We don’t talk about engagement and quality” in management contexts. This is an app that doesn’t value your phone, and a newspaper that doesn’t value your time or intelligence. Avoid it and start reading The Post instead if you want excellent quality local journalism.
Shocking paper has plants working in the comments section saying things to provoke people to comment on there because it’s dying and nobody buys it anymore
iOS 17.6.1 on iPhone 15. The app keeps auto scrolling down to the adverts at the bottom of each story, so you can’t actually read the article.
This app is slow and often freezes
It’s just so frustrating trying to read an article when the page is invaded with stupid pointless adverts. The page doesn’t stay still or scroll properly. The content of the echo has changed dramatically. Stories of Warrington Widnes or Wirral are of no interest to us in Liverpool. The Daily Post used to be Wirral focused but that’s changed. The Echo has lost its identity.
Cannot open reply’s in comments since the update. The app crashes and closes. Very disappointing.
Some of the court reporting is very good, as is the sport. But they are obsessed with celeb rubbish. Now you have to pay to read articles. Utter cheek. Part of the reach group, so lots of articles are rehashed from other regions
Forced subscription is not the future. Getting deleted.
The content of this app is the average bit, however what drags it below average is the fact that every time you go back into the app, you have to reset your favourite topics, as the app has wiped anything you saved previously. I only go on to read around four different topics but you have to constantly reset them. Proper pain in the rear!
