Lloyd of the Flies AR Bug Hunt

When it did work, the bug flew away most of the time. However, for the first time in years, my phone locked up. Couldn’t use the app, switch apps nor sleep phone (original iPhone SE). Had to force restart it. So the developer response, 10 months later, is basically to blame me for using their app on a phone that’s not powerful enough - without putting that requirement in the “Works on this iPhone” section here. It still says Requires iOS 15 and iPhone SE 1st Gen.

Didn’t work at Rosemoor at all. 2 disappointed kids. Just don’t produce something and promote it across a site without making sure it works 🙈🙈

Although the UX could’ve been better, the app was sweet and well pitched. Good work Aardman

Great idea and when it works it’s sort of OK. Forget it if you’re in a weak reception area (like most of RHS Hyde Hall); the app just hangs and there’s no ‘back’ button to get out to a homepage, you have to kill the app and reopen it. Beware - some of the AR features don’t work on older phones (such as the hand-me-downs that younger children might have), so in our case big sister was able to see some of the features that younger sister couldn’t. There’s also very little help or guidance in the app so it takes some prodding around to find some of the fun things in there and that’s not the point when visiting a garden and trying to follow a trail. Other than that it’s great fun when working and has some innovative features, such as stacking insect poo (likely to be a hit with most kids!). Needs better development and testing before release.

Just kept opening the camera app with no clear instructions. Frustrating

It just seems to open a camera and there are no clear instructions what on Earth is supposed to happen or what we’re supposed to do. Very frustrating and led to very fed up kids.

Downloaded for the bug hunt trail at RHS Wisley and it just basically did nothing! Not even entirely clear on what it’s meant to do but regardless it didn’t do anything to do with the trail so unsure of the point or purpose of it.

Couldn’t get this to work properly. Not clear what you are supposed to be doing and kids got completely fed up after 2 attempts.
