Location Log is made for people that like to know exactly where they were at any point in time, but who also value their privacy and want to be able to achieve this without having to share all their data with anyone (not even the app developer).
Once installed, Location Log continuously and accurately tracks your location in the background throughout each day, ensuring that your location data is held locally on your device, and available only to you - not shared.
In a world where data tends to be the new currency, Location Log tries to stand against this trend. This is why no sign-up or login is required, and of course no centralised server is used to store location history: because the location data is held privately and locally on your device.
The app has been specifically designed in a unique way to optimise battery usage, despite continuously and accurately tracking your location throughout each day in the background.
• History function: to view your movements on any date (also useful to help determine the time you arrived and left any specific location, say, to calculate how long a visit lasted for).
• Distance calculator: to calculate approximate distance travelled between selected times of a day, useful for mileage calculations.
• Search function allows you to search any region to reveal all historic dates that you visited that area.
• Delete, import, and export functions are available, so you have complete control of your data.
• ON/OFF toggle allows you to start/stop logging your location.
• Logging Frequency: Provides options for the frequency of logging.
• Backing up your device is advised to keep a backup of your Location History data (for example when when replacing your handset). You can also manually export your location history using the 'export' function, and use the 'import' feature to import it back in as well.
• Offers Export to GPX format

Location Log FAQ
Is Location Log free?
Yes, Location Log is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Location Log legit?
✅ The Location Log app appears to be high-quality and legitimate. Users are very satisfied.
Ever wonder which day you went wherever to do whatever? This app, running in the background at all times, will tell you! You can set the logging frequency to anything from 1 minute to 1 hour. I have found that even every minute doesn’t use significant battery on my 14 Pro Max.
Works exactly as described
This app is truly a breath of fresh air, uncluttered and unencumbered by unnecessary features, and most of all, works exactly as described.
Excellent!
This app is perfect for logging travel data and exporting as well. Thanks!!!
Does exactly what it says on the tin!
This app is superb. It has precisely zero bells and whistles and performs the exact task required in a neat and efficient manner. And it’s FREE! Thank you Quinn.
Excellent App
Just an excellent app for travel that does not share your location outside of your device, except stored as part of your iCloud backup. Battery use is minimal on my iPhone 14 Pro Max so I just turn it on when leaving for a trip and turn it off when returning home. Turning it on is on travel checklist along with putting thermostats in away mode so I don’t forget.
I have used this logger for several trips now, recently including Copenhagen, Bergen, and then a cruise stopping in Greenland and Iceland and it’s great to be able to retrace my streps after getting home. I am able to overlay the GPX track log over the GPS photo info recorded by my camera in Lightroom and fill the location gaps between the photos.
I do have trouble getting the time stamps on the waypoints to match up to the local timestamps in the photos without editing the GPX files to fix up the times. Still trying to figure out the best way to do this as Lightroom does have a track offset function but it doesn’t remember it between sessions and it’s not very useful for trips across multiple time zones with just a single GPX file.
I believe that this is really a Lightroom problem, of course, and not a fault of this app. The Lightroom map module has other bugs I’ve reported to no avail so work-arounds are needed.
So this is a wonderful app—indispensable for world travelers. Don’t hesitate to get it.
App works well
This app logs my location privately. It runs in the background and barely uses any battery. You do not have to have the app running once you enable background logging. Well done!
perfect, works as described
love this app, thank you. hearkens back to the tightly-focused mobile apps of the early 21st century :)
feature request: it would be nice to have support for "approximate" location; visualizing location during a flight almost works, but approx locations aren't recorded in the app, i think
Perfect
This app does exactly what I want an app like this to do, and the user interface behaves exactly as it should.
Great app!
This app is easy to set up, simple to learn, works great, and does exactly what I was hoping. It also generates location history reports for any specified date range— just click expert, put in a date range, select GPX file format, and email the report to myself. Then I can open the report in Microsoft Notepad and see all of the date and location coordinates for each day.
I have been searching for a free location tracking app that will collect my location data without needing to manually push a button to check-in each time, and be able to generate location reports over a specific date range. This is the only app I found that does all of these things. The app developer also responds to emails with any questions.
Calendar for the win
This is the third location logger I have tried. Finally, one that easily lets me check “where did I go last Tuesday?” Viewing this as a calendar makes it so simple.
