Description

Use one app to look up any Greek or Latin word: Logeion was developed at the University of Chicago to provide simultaneous lookup of entries in many classical dictionaries. In addition, for frequent words, some frequency and collocation information is given plus examples from the corpus at perseus.uchicago.edu.

• Liddell and Scott's Greek-English Lexicon (1940)
• DGE (Diccionario Griego–Español). In progress; up to έξαυος.
• Slater's Lexicon to Pindar (1969)

• The Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources, ed. R. E. Latham, D. R. Howlett, & R. K. Ashdowne (London: British Academy, 1975-2013)

The app draws data from the following Greek and Latin textbooks.
• Frieze (rev. Dennison) Vergil’s Aeneid Books I-XII, with an Introduction, Notes, and Vocabulary

Great app for Greek interpretation

the whale mister on

I find this app great for writing essays on style and interpretation as it gives so many examples and meanings from different sources, however I would love an update allowing for a full sized keyboard on iPhone X and newer and also a dark mode if possible

Great app, the best (with reservations) out there.

There are so many good features on that app! I'm only going to describe the Greek features, but Latin is also supported (including a version of Du Cange, the huge Latin-Latin dictionary of medieval and early modern Latin). Best for me is that it includes the most up-to-date Greek dictionary, the Diccionario Griego-Españo (DGE) where it exists (big classical dictionaries take decades to complete, as we know). Middle Liddell is there (and we should look up most words there before looking in LSJ as the big lexicon has too much info for most words to be an efficient source). It also quotes a number of examples drawn from a corpus of Greek texts (less useful for the beginner). Also useful are things like telling you which chapter of Reading Greek a common word is found in, a list of the 'top five' authors who use the word and finally a list of 'collocations' or words often associated with the word under discussion in texts. These latter functions are data taken from a server, so are not available offline, but the core lexica (including DGE!) are always svailable. The one thing it doesn't have is a parser, so you need to know the dictionary form. Similarly and disappointingly you can't look up irregular aorists or perfects in Greek or Latin, a genuine drawback especially when we're starting Greek or Latin. Actually the Latin case is not as bad as many perfect forms can be found as the app will refer you to the web site if you have a connection and some at least principal parts are available there. I hope the authors will add in links for irregular aorists/perfects/participles as these are a nightmare for beginners and also provide some form of parser. But I'm rather overwhelmed by the app!

Great app!
