Mackie Master Fader 5 Reviews
Nil development
This has to be one of the worst supported products since Yamaha’s mLan protocol.
Users have been left for years now with a buggy, unfinished firmware and unreliable app. The flagship DL32R can’t take advantage of the additional FX or multiple platform musing unless it inherits a host of new problems in v5.
More to the point, instead of fixing these issues, Mackie censor and delete comments on social media which point out their failings.
If you’re going to abandon a product, at least leave the investors with a final stable version of the software.
Frustrated DL32s User
In version 5.2 It takes several attempts to connect the mixer whether using an external router or mixer wi-fi. Attempts include restarting both the mixer and wi-fi router. If only I could revert to 5.1 😒
For this you get 1 star. This includes not developing a personal mixer-console (like the Behringer Powerplay P-16) which can link to your Awesome DL-SERIES via Ethernet/Danté.
Jumpy Faders Ruin This
Having used Master Fader 4 for around 10 years with very little issues. I was excited to get MF5 when we upgraded our desk. However that excitement was short lived when I realised it is going to be a complete nightmare in a live situation. The faders either don’t work when you press them or they jump through the roof.
You guys need to fix this issue sooner rather than later. Not good at all!!
Love the DL16s, master fader 5 too buggy still.
Such a shame that Master Fader 5 app is still buggy even after 5.1... the faders are almost unusable in a quick scenario, as they jump. I’ve been using master fader for years, and it’s a major noticeable issue. You have to almost hold the fader for a second or two before moving it, otherwise (unless your smack bang in the middle of it) it jumps. Live, this is unacceptable. SUCH A SHAME! Otherwise this would be 5*
Faders jumpy. Almost unusable!
On both iOS and windows versions, the faders on this new app behave differently from its predecessors. If you do not tap precisely in the middle of the fader button, the fader jumps to the position of your finger as soon as you move. This can be severe, giving an immediate stark increase or decrease in volume!! I am a long time user of this app and hardware, owning DL 16S, DL1608, and DL32R units, but this problem means I will have to rethink this if it is not fixed soon, as it makes it difficult at best to use in any kind of professional sound situation. Please, please correct this so that I can continue to use my favourite app.
Static IP - mixer discovery
Master Fader 5.1 seems to have removed the function of connecting to a mixer by entering an IP address. If the mixer has been given a static IP and is in another subnet, then it will not show up as an available device and you cannot connect to it. Master Fader 4.6.2 has the option to manually enter an IP address to connect to the mixer when it is in another subnet and therefore not discoverable. In anything other than a basic network set up this is essential and used to be there - now it seems to have gone.
Please could you restore this function.
Thanks....
Still the best
Finally got tired of the shortcomings of the DL1608, even though Master Fader 4 was my favourite control app. In hardware terms, the new DL16S does everything the 1608 didn’t do, and Master Fader 5 has all of the familiarity and ease of use of previous versions - simplicity, big, clear controls, intuitive operation, helpful use of colour, and reliability. The only bug I’ve encountered so far is that while notes about the current show are stored correctly, any edits to these seem to get promptly forgotten. I can live with that.
Can’t wait to do another gig!
Upgrade
Why is the upgrade fir the DL32R taking years to upgrade to version 5 come on we have waited long enough let’s get this project finished and released.
