Magellan Synthesizer 2

Pro Analog Modeling Synth

Published by: Yonac

Description

A classic is reborn! With its introduction nearly a decade ago, Magellan pushed the boundaries of iOS technology and quickly took its place among the platform’s most popular synths. Continuing this pedigree, Yonac’s flagship Magellan Synthesizer 2 is a new alchemy of pristine sounds, innovative features, and devotion to user friendliness — all the same preserving the wicked soul of the original.
Cutting-edge synthesis technology, punchier tones, warmer filters, greater modulation options, AUv3, MPE, brand-new presets: these are just a few of Magellan’s features for a whole new era.
SIGNAL GENERATORS
Magellan’s beating heart is its three realtime virtual-analog oscillators: with their pulse width and blend parameters, the first two connect to a unique Timbre module to derive many additional waveforms. A special Oscillator Unison stage activates additional “secret” oscillators to supply up to 24 oscillators per voice — perfect for supersaws, or true chorus/flange effects obtained right at the synthesis stage. A fully configurable Maximizer module helps create even bigger stereophonic sounds by activating up to 120 simultaneous oscillators per voice.
FM
A powerful yet intuitive FM module gives life to Magellan’s unique hybrid design. With its very own ADSR and variable contour generator (with 3 different envelope shapes), it works as an additional sound source and transforms Magellan 2 into a very capable frequency modulation synthesizer. Combined with other oscillators and modulation features, it generates strong multi-layered textures impossible via subtractive synthesis alone.
FILTERS
Two independent filter banks, 11 different filters, series/parallel selection with variable balance — these newfangled filters incorporate nonlinearities and analog-derived quirks that impart them hefty servings of aural “sugar”. The addition of “FAT” controls helps give added gravitas and harmonic content. Dedicated ADSRs (with extra long maxes) feature A/B/C contour generators for totally different playing characteristics.
MODULATION
Twin LFOs, modulation envelope, as well as direct control: the backbone of a powerful and versatile modulation system that can take 16 simultaneous targets, each with its own variable amount. In addition, each LFO/Envelope target can be assigned a secondary control (including via MIDI) to dynamically vary or even “piggyback” its modulating signal. The inbuilt XY-pad can hit any pair of 140 parameters for realtime control, while the “EZ Velocity” module helps quickly dial in the right touch for amplitude, filters & FM.
SPAWN2
Second generation Yonac SPAWN unlocks the power of A.I. to help create countless original presets. Powered with an Expert mode, three different algorithms, and configurable machine autonomy down to module level, you can produce anything from subtle variations on a theme to wild new sounds with unrivaled “hit rate” — all at the touch of a button.
AUv3, MIDI & MPE
The ultra-efficient synth engine and flexible user interface are specially designed so that you can run many Magellans simultaneously in your favorite AUv3 DAW or Mixer. Along with massively featured MIDI I/O (complete with MIDI learn/recall, program changes, et al.), Magellan 2 is also MPE compatible with full polyphonic pitch control. Aftertouch and even CC74 are assignable through the mod matrices — and the new onscreen MagTOUCH MPE controller provides voice-wise expression not only within Magellan, but to other MPE apps/devices and inside compatible DAWs as well.
...AND MORE
Analog-inspired 32x4 step/pattern sequencer with gate, velocity and skip; ChordMaker with note matrix that maps one key into a chord; powerful, easy-to-use arp with live & program modes; FX rack featuring 10 stereo units and configurable signal flow; 360+ factory presets, with a bank custom produced by Sunsine Audio; Ableton Link, YPAT3 preset management, patch translator, app recorder are just a few more of Magellan Synthesizer 2 features.

Magellan Synthesizer 2 Reviews

AWESOME SYNTH

Shadowhavok13 on

I love Mag2…sounds so growly and thick. I’m using it for everything right now. A full professionally useable synth. I am so glad I bought it and upgraded from the original Magellan. Yonac’s apps are so cool and I’m looking forward to more. This synth is AWESOME. Do yourself a favor and buy them. Yonac Synths RULE! - Grey F♾️l

Underrated and powerful analog sounding synth…

This is one of my favorite synth apps on iOS and I have almost all of them. Heck, there are some things about this synth that I prefer to real analog synths that I own too. Very versatile, easy to get around, great sounding synth. Not in love with the effects section but I never am in any synth and prefer to use desktop plugins for effects.

Bluetooth A2DP not working stand alone, only in AUM

My Jlab Bluetooth earbuds don’t work with this synth. Sound only comes out right earbud and of poor audio quality. Sounds great with wired earbuds into 3.5mm port. Sounds great both ears for Jlab Bluetooth earbuds if run through AUM. Reviews suggest you fixed this for Trooper, how about a fix for Magellan 2? All my stand alone synths from other vendors work great with my Jlab Bluetooth earbuds. Can you please fix this? Then you will be my favorite analog synth app. But for now, kind of frustrated with the app. I really want to run it stand alone. Thank you!

Broken when I bought it, its fixed now thanks.

Some of the features of this app barely work since it crashes every time you use them. This app is very buggy, if you mess with the FX it immediately does this weird cracking noise and mutes your sound. You also hear a crackle sometimes while playing any of the existing presets. ^ All of that has been fixed and works as normal now.

Not as good as the original

I had both Magellan 1 and 2. Magellan 1 was by far better. But it stopped working and crashed. So I deleted it hoping to reinstall, too late. They took it off the market. So now I’m stuck waiting to see if it will be opened to me here in America. If not where’s my refund with all the add on’s And as an add on review I was told Yonac will not refund my money and that it’s Apple’s responsibility. But any first year Law Student will tell you Yonac is wrong it is indeed their responsibility and their’s alone.

Great Synth

There really is so much here for the price: lots of sounds, effects, a powerful ARP generator, a sequencer, and more. Recommended.

Amazing features. Really great synth. Tones, adjustments, and intuitive controls. One of my favorite synths to open up an idea. Worth every penny!

Crashing like crazy

It’s been crashing like crazy in beat maker 3 and it wont save my work. Please fix that.

Nice but..

I had the first Magellan and bought all the expansions… but now I can’t download the expansions into the first app as it crashes when attempting. I’ve had this second installment since it was released and bought the expansions here… but now I’m wondering why my old purchases aren’t available as a restore in this one since they seem very similar to each other and since It will not let me restore them into the old version.. maybe this issue can be visited and hopefully a solution comes out of it.. holding my breath.

Sounds great, but I think there’s a bug

Deep Fried Panda on

I was really excited to try these Yonac apps, but was left really underwhelmed by how they actually sound. At first. This synth didn’t have a very rich, warm tone, but instead sounded very flat and lo-fi. I tried different effects and even different devices, and the result was the same. I actually thought this app and all the other Yonac synths sounded terrible. Then I tried opening it inside AUM, and it sounded brilliant. For some reason this app only lives up to its potential when it’s paired with either AUM or if I open Korea Gadget first. Otherwise it sounds really flat. Using it with another app is a workaround I can live with, but it’s still a fairly annoying bug.
