Description

Magium is a text adventure game similar to old Choose your own story books (CYOA), in which you play as an ordinary guy named Barry, who joins a deadly mage tournament against the most powerful mages in the world in the hopes of using the prize to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a mage himself.
As in all interactive novels, your choices will affect the story, and making wrong choices can even lead to your death. Besides the traditional choice making of regular Choose your own story games, Magium also has stats that you can upgrade with points that you will receive occasionally, throughout the game. These stats will be checked by the game from time to time, to see if they are high enough to allow you to perform certain actions. For example, if your ancient languages stat is high enough, you can understand what animals and monsters are saying.
The story of Magium starts at the beginning of the tournament, right after you and all the other participants were transported to the continent where the contest was taking place.
As the story progresses, you will meet with other participants, you will make friends and enemies, and you will find out more about the continent you are on, and its inhabitants. You will find out that a person called "The Creator" had established several utopias in this place, six hundred years ago, where animals and humans lived in harmony, and food was created through magic. What you will get to see, however, is the downfall of these utopias, some of them being on the brink of destruction. Your choices will influence what happens in these cities, and you can even choose to save them if you so desire.
The main story of the game will be divided into five books, each of them consisting of more than a hundred thousand words.
The first book is now available in its entirety, and it can be played for free, with ads. It is approximately 178k words long, which translates to about 700 book pages. This number also takes into account the story's branching paths. The length of a playthrough on average should be about 90k words, so about 350 book pages.
The second book is also available in its entirety, . Unlike the first book, the second one will need to be unlocked before it can be played, and it will be the same for the next books as well. In order to unlock the second book, you will either need to complete 25 of the 35 available achievements, or pay to remove the ads for the first book.
The second book is 277k words in total, on all paths, which translates to about 1100 book pages. On one path, you should be seeing around half of those words, so roughly 140k, which would translate to 550 book pages or so.
The third book has just been completed, but the next books have not been written yet, and they will be published chapter by chapter, as I write them.
Book 3 is around 445k words in total, on all paths, so around 1500 book pages of content.

Achievements turndown

Overall the game is really good and I loved the story but forcing to do achievements in order to advance to the next book is a big turndown and is the reason why both me and my wife stopped playing. I fully understand the need for game to earn some money but I don’t think that paying to unlock next book is a good way to do it, because it only discourage to progress further into the game instead of granting additional perks for the money spent. What’s more is that even when I decided to pay for unlocking book 3, I wasn’t able to - nothing happened after clicking appropriate button.

I love it

Very fun story game!

DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE BOTS

This is one if not the only game that I’ve ever rated and reviewed AND given a 5 star rating. I’ve read other people’s reviews and have a couple things to let you know about. Primarily, I’ve seen people give this game 1 star for “lack of consistent book releases” and “no frequent updates for content”. THE DUDE IS CURRENTLY IN AN ACTIVE WARZONE, and probably has a lot more to worry about then this amazing hobby. Other then that, the age rating is off a bit and should probably be bumped up a couple years if you have a vivid imagination. Secondly, saving is a semi frequent problem IMO because I keep forgetting to save before some decisions and have to go through an entire chapter because I’m silly. Maybe some more checkpoints? Anyways, if you read this, your writing is amazing and you are the sole reason I’ve gotten into creative writing and text style adventure games! I would LITERALLY pay you the world to finish this series and I hope you’re staying safe out there!

Must play

The best fantasy (COYA) game i've played in a very long time. thank you for creating this.

I LOVE this game, but…

By no means am I qualified to criticize the author. I found this on the AppStore years ago when I was in middle school and digested every route possible. This is definitely what you’d call a hidden gem. I remembered it today and decided to check up on the state it’s in now, and unfortunately I was disappointed. It was always a captivating and intriguing story, and I understand the author has his own life aside from this project. A new chapter seems to come out just once or twice a year, and I’m afraid I’ll be long gone before it’s finished without a dwarven lifespan. The author probably makes little to no money for his creativity, which saddens me because it would not only help him but also motivate him to update us more consistently. I get it’s hard to monetize something like this while keeping the fan base involved, so I’m not placing any blame on the author. I just wish there was a way man, because I want this story finished so badly.

Love the game

I love the the depth the game and all the variations of the paths and how what you do in one book or chapter affects the story later on. I do love the fact that you can complete most chapters with our using the stat points as I like to save before each major decisions and see where each path goes to take in just a bit of the game. Truly can’t wait for Book 4.

Love it, great replayability

I've been playing it off and on since book 2 was still incomplete. Even then it had enough content to have fun replaying it different ways. I like the maxed out speed and reflex Barry, he's like the flash. But hulk Barry is also really cool, maxed strength and toughness.

Excellent story

Amazing story! I’ve tried some of the other choose your own adventure games and none of them are comparable to Magium. I will note that once you get sucked in, it can be annoying that new chapters take a while to come out, but this seems to be a function of (a) story just gets larger with more choices built up (b) longer chapters (c) quality writing. Always, 100% worth downloading, and everything is free.

What can’t I load my saves from cloud

Elixious01 on

I recently got a new phone and forgot to down this app again. I remember there being a load saved from cloud but when I get into the app there is nothing of the sort. I do in fact remember there being a button before and I remember saving my progress. Please I need help!

Love it

Love the story but it’s understandable how writing a different story for each choice is time consuming. Why not use AI to finish it? AI should be able to do a bunch of the legwork and help get the story going. Edit what you want. I’m sure you’re ready to move on to new things and we’re ready for the rest of the story.
