Making Reviews

I like it. I am updating as I use the app.

I enjoy this application. I do think it can still use some quality-of-life updates. Colors that better work with each other, text/font, and more responsiveness. Also, the edit button blends in with the background. Most of the issues I mention are when in Dark Mode.

I've kept my eye on this platform, but I've been slow to set myself up. I love the dedicated space for crafters. It seems safe and engaging; I feel in control of what I want to see and how I want to use the app. Community driven. It can use a few bells and whistles but not too much to take away from the purpose. I am enjoying it so far! I would love a dark mode. . Some minor things, or maybe I'm still learning the mechanics, but when I try to tag someone in a post, and their name comes up as a suggestion, I click on it, but it displays their email. I'm not sure if that's normal. Usually, it's just their handle on most platforms. So I deleted the email part. After I posted, their tag didn't take me to them. It says this user doesn't have a profile, but if I search them, it comes up. . I just learned how you could resize the photo by pinching to zoom. It wasn't evident to me at first the way the UI is set up. I still feel like the photos come second the way they're somewhat hidden by the wall after being posted. It looks nice, but I feel it's a little intrusive.

Great community of makers!

I love the Making app. There is so much opportunity for makers to document their creations, connect with others, teach and learn, cross-pollinate inspiration across mediums and more. The virtual events they host make for deeper conversations and much enjoyment. I really love this app.

The Future of Crafting & Making

I am so in love with this app and the company’s mission to create a community of close-knit artists and makers. I believe this app will be the future replacement for Instagram, Etsy, and Craftsy. Everything I need, in one centered, grounded place - created by humans who truly care and are making the world a better place.

A breath of fresh air

This app is perhaps most valuable to me for all the ways that it encourages PROCESS and CURIOSITY. A lot of the folks on the app post projects in process, not just polished and finished products. It gives context and encourages me to JUST BEGIN (if I’m stuck) or JUST KEEP GOING (if I’m in the middle of things). Making things with my hands is crucial to my mental health, but its a slow process, and its good to remember its that way for a lot of us. The process matters and is beautiful and valuable in its own right. There are also opportunities to learn from others, both through formal classes and informal interactions. The classes are easy to access and are generally presented as an INVITATION TO LEARN AND CREATE. All in all, there is a sense of invitation and welcome. That is certainly a breath of fresh air.

Can't try before signup

I'd like to at least see what I'm signing up for before I give over my data but this app requires you to enroll before seeing anything. No option to partially browse as a guest or anything. Useless. Uninstalling.

Nice alternative to IG for makers

I’m really enjoying this app, my only quibble is that I really really wish there was a “dark mode” option. I find myself not using it in the evening because all the white space in the layouts feels a bit blinding.

Cozy Creative Community

I love love love this app and community! I’m inspired every time I log on — by various makers’ projects, process, and finished objects. It’s my favorite parts of the social media platform I just left. Making is creative pictures and inclusive community without the noise and the mindless scrolling.

So fun!

It’s been great to see what all kinds of other makers out there are up to. I do wish you could read the caption for the pictures without having to click on the image. Inspiring nonetheless!

As a new-ish knitter, Making puts inspiration, project tracking and connecting with a knowledgeable and friendly community in the palm of my hand—can’t imagine creating without it!
