Manabi Reader Reviews

Good but needs more work

Keigo 221 on

Good reading for those who learn Japanese! Can you please check if International folktales have the reading mode? Somehow it’s not always possible! Great app though!

Integration with Anki makes this an amazing tool

Isthisnametakenplsno on

Being able to create Anki cards with one click from my phone and have them immediately in my deck is a game changer. The only thing that keeps me from spending the entirety of my time on this app is the lack of an epub reader.

Reader mode gone?

Really useful app but the reader mode seems to have disappeared after the latest update.

Great app, but slowly falling apart

Garyrobert2 on

Japan

I love this app, simple and easy to use and a great way to learn Japanese. Sadly it seems that it’s just no being updated, and it’s seems slowly to be falling apart, losing more and more functions. I’ve given up on it and moved to similar (though less user friendly) apps. Shame. I hope they can revive it soon!

It’s good

It’s good but it’s broken at some times. Can’t save vocabulary, update articles or can’t access certain articles. It’s a shame because it has potential

It’s awesome, but lacking

Japan

This is a great app which I plan on reviewing on my YouTube channel. I’m giving it 3 stars because there are a few no brainer features that it should really include, AND because the summary button after reading something doesn’t work on iPad Pro 11 right now (it pops up and disappears immediately). Speaking of the summary feature, why is there nowhere in the app where we can get an overall summary of what we have read over time? It’s possible to track all the words you’ve read in a single article, and show a summary of words read afterwards, but no summary page at all. This seems like an obvious feature, especially for the paid version.

So good appreciate your development

This app is good for Japanese learning, it has FURIGANA attached, which helps KANJI Pronunciation learning effectively.

The best app for learning through immersion

weeabooinjapan on

Japan

I have been using immersion as my main method of studying Japanese for some time now. Manabi is the best app to assist with this. There is content pulled automatically from popular Japanese websites like 2ch and rocket news, I can simply tap a word to see it's definition or how to read it and to create a flashcard for it. You can even use pages that are not included in the app or pull content from the clipboard. I have been using Manabi to assist me in reading a web version of my favorite light novel series and it has been a big help to quickly learn the words that I don't already know. It would be really great if there were more content sources included in the app like animeanime (Japanese anime news site) or syosetu (web novel site) but since content can be added from a URL or from the clipboard it's not such a big deal however it would be more convenient. I love this app and I definitely recommend it for anyone learning Japanese through immersion.
