I purchased both the North and South Island apps, and found them helpful. It all worked well. But now the maps are out of date, and the supplier does not appear to offer updates. From now on I will use IhikeGPSNZ which supplies free, up to date maps, allows tracks and waypoints - a much more comprehensive solution.
This version is too buggy which is a shame as I have come to rely on this app in so many situations (always take hard copy & compass). It never remembers your last zoom location and reverts out to the entire island on each launch. This never happened on the old version. Have to re-launch the app several times for the map to work properly. Look forward to a more stable version!
I have the same prob as Larry...hope it gets sorted real quick
This was a pretty good map app (although it didn't zoom in far enough) until he put out an upgrade. I naturally downloaded the upgrade only to find that the app now shuts down as soon as I've opened it. So if you want to pay $20 for an app that won't work on iPad 2 go ahead and buy this one.
Needs greater zoom detail.
Worth every cent. Quick location pinpointing and quick map/tile loading. Recommendations for next version: another zoom level and compass integration.
...on my Ipod touch 4g scrolling and zooming are buggy. Searching is basic and for example if you want to find "Sandy Bay" you will get a list of Sandy Bays without qualification so you have to click on them all to find the one you are looking for!. On the Ipod (and Iphone) the closest zoom level is still not zoomed in enough to read the small text (contour line heights etc) without squinting (I have good eyes). An extra 2 or 3 zoom levels are necessary. On the Ipad with less pixel density this may not be an issue. Even for this (comparatively) cheap price I would expect better searching and easier and greater zooming.
Disappointed, I want a refund / search function does not work
I have only recently downloaded this ap and am yet to go into the bush. BUT - from my testing it seems great. Don't use it as a substitute to a paper map, but do use it to give yourself a current accurate position on a topo map. For my purposes it is perfect. I do hope that they will provide free upgrades to maps as they become available. Only time will tell.
