Description

Map Projection Demonstration
This app illustrates a variety of possible map projections. Map projections fall into three general categories: cylindrical projections, conic projections, and azimuthal (or polar) projections. Each category contains several different types of projections.
The app demonstrates the creation of maps in 31 different projections, and allows the user to choose the central latitude and longitude for each map.
The formulas that are used to convert locations on the surface of a sphere to locations on a flat map are included.
There is also a visual demonstration of the conversion process for each of the map types.
