If you are looking for legal help, keeping track of important paperwork is crucial. Keeping your documents organized will ensure you get legal help tailored to your case. It will also allow attorneys and legal aid organizations to understand your situation more quickly, helping them help you.
The Justice Passport can help you store all your documents in a single place. You can take a picture of a document with your phone and upload it to the Justice Passport, or you can use a scanner. Documents can include your court forms, lease agreements, financial statements, receipts, screenshots, photos or other important case documents. All information that you upload will belong to you. No one will have access to your Justice Passport unless you give them access. All your data and documents are encrypted and password protected for security.
• Collaborate and Stay Organized: Keep case details in one place while getting help from many organizations
When searching for legal help, it is common to interact with many organizations. Sharing your Justice Passport allows staff and attorneys to get up to speed on your case and provide you with targeted legal help.
When you contact an organization to apply for services, tell them that you have a Justice Passport. If they are a participating organization, you can choose to share your Justice Passport with service providers. This speeds up the provider's process to view the case information and assist you. This also helps them run conflicts checks, give brief advice, or provide representation.
• To-Do List: Work with providers to track the next steps in your legal process
When you work with a participating organization, they can add a task to your passport, reminding you of next steps to take. This will outline your next course of action. Tasks can include finding and uploading documents, calling another organization, or filling out a form. If they refer you to another organization, the new providers will be able to see the documents, case summary, tasks, and events in your Justice Passport.
Keeping track of all the tasks in the Justice Passport helps you stay prepared and organized while navigating through the legal system in Maryland .
