Max Tracker Hurricane WPLG Reviews

Bad New Map But Good Tracker

Rachelxo7 on

I would have given this app 5 ⭐️s rating, I’ve used it for the last 8 years and it’s helped so much. BUT the new updated map is so awful. It’s really bad and I can’t see the storms well. It’s like a 3d round globe that’s so off center and mostly the middle of the ocean. It’s really hard to track hurricanes/storms this way. It just doesn’t make any sense and just makes it difficult to see and follow along. I had to download 2-3 other hurricane apps to help me see better. I still use this one a lot. Why not just make the map like it was before but only with the new colors in 3d but with a flat map like before? All in all, I’m still thankful for this app and use it everyday during hurricane season.

Max Tracker-On A Wing and A Prayer

I have used Max Tracker for years. Living in Miami, hurricanes are a constant annual fear cycle. What will this year bring? When it comes right down to it, a patch in the Atlantic potentially spelling disaster or skittering off to annoy someone else, I go to Max Tracker the bromide of the heart and mind to quell my fears and provide an intelligent basis for planning and actions. Go (evacuate) or stay? Usually stay. Are the hurricane shutters in good working order? When to pull them closed? A hurricane window company approached me to buy hurricane windows. They said they would remove my hurricane shutters. I thanked them and said, “Even if I buy hurricane windows, I will keep the shutters and use them. I don’t want to see what is happening out there with all the wind and rain. The freight train sound of the storm is about as much as I can bear.” So, back to Max Tracker. Armed with Max’s knowledge, I know that I will survive another hurricane. I keep track of the news on the TV following the trail of destruction and noting the path of its presumed advance, I try to estimate what that will mean to me. What will I have to clean up? What help will I need? Surely the screen man for the patio’s two story outdoor living area, possibly a carpenter/handyman, a landscaper? I sleep when the storm actually blows at my house and when it leaves, I start checking. What does Max Tracker have to say? The local TV station? The national weather network? I open the shutters and peek out. Not too bad. The storm has passed and I can open the shutters. The neighbors all come out. Do we have TV? Cell phone service? Electricity? Are stores, ATMs and gas stations open? Are traffic lights working. Is Krispy Kreme open? I’ll get some big boxes of donuts and coffee for the neighborhood so we can commiserate our damages in comfort. In a few days the hurricane has exhausted itself out and I too am exhausted. Things are clean and orderly.. All the plants have been trimmed up and the trash removed. I congratulate myself that I have survived another hurricane and life goes on. Thank you Max Tracker for guiding me through another storm.

Please Return to Flat Map View

The last update for this app now has a globe view instead of the flat map. This is extremely difficult to see correctly. Please go back to the old view. I have emailed the developer twice and never got a reply. I see from other reviews that there are others who find this difficult to see also.

Great updated info!

Can you go back to the old map?

Really love this app, but it seems the update has changed the Tropics watch part to round globe. I just feel like it was easier on the eyes when it was a regular map.

Curved globe view not good

Fc'er on

This has been my go to hurricane tracker for a long time and always been good. Unfortunately, the new curved globe view doesn’t work. Makes it difficult to see exact location of potential storms. Please go back to old flat view, much better.

Do not like new tropics view

That is all.

What happened?

This has been my go-to app for hurricane info for years but something changed in the past weeks. All of the maps are centered on the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. That is interesting but no one lives in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Two potential systems are displayed now and it’s hard to tell but I think one is near the bay of Campeche/yucatan. And the other off the coast of Florida/georgia/south Carolina/North Carolina. And what’s interesting about that is that millions of people live near the Caribbean/gulf of Mexico/u.s Atlantic Coast and all of that is crunched over to the left of the map so details are difficult to see. Not that the middle of the Atlantic isn’t important especially mid to late season but to me the focus should mostly be where most people live with a side perspective of what is happening off the coast of Africa and mid Atlantic Ocean. And I think those perspectives are why I have used this app for years. But it was so natural I didn’t even notice until it changed in the past few weeks.
