Effective little app, alternative to compression?
Obviously this does do what it says, automatically automating. Once you put the app into the effects chain in GarageBand for example, if you hit on the effect, you see a graphic demonstrating the automation situation it has applied to the audio. I found it good on guitar pieces especially nice clean echo guitar, there are lovely nuances it brings out along the entire instrument track, in the blink of an eye. It raises up the low-level detail, the quiet bits, which rather states the obvious, but there you go! Like compression does, but it’s a different way of achieving a similar outcome. I feel it is very useful when you don’t want to do a full production mix, but know that if you did, you’d raise the detailed quiet parts up, so it just does that quickly. I have done nothing more, but there are a few fine-tuning aspects I think? I also got the Bass Rider one, but have not had the need for it yet. I assume, there’s a difference that necessitates a bass frequencies version. Actually, it’s just occurred to me, the sort of Peter Gabriel ‘Don’t give Up’ bass, might be what this could do, so that’s worth trying, just to obtain that top-end buzz that is such a hallmark of some of the big albums he did.
