Abrupt quits are frequent, and the solver can’t produce hints or solutions for any of the mate-in-7 problems. So it’s good for all the problems up to mate in 6, which is good enough practice. It’s entirely possible that more powerful iPhones will support this app completely, so if you have an 8 or higher give it a try!
These nice little challenges help me improve my game. A good mixture for me of easy and hard chess puzzles.
Good
I found all the problems entertaining. I found a number of alternate and quicker solutions to a few problems, but two of the problems had no solutions or were presented improperly (for instance black to play, instead of white to play)
The amount of value in this app is quite high. I do like the verisimilitude of the positions.
It's fun, it's knowledge, it's learning,
What makes this collection of chess puzzles stand apart from others is these appear to be taken from real positions in chess games. The player and opponent names are given along with their rating, if known, at the time. This makes the puzzles more realistic as opposed to the utter nonsense of those fabricated setups we've seen before, made up purely for the sake of a puzzle. Lastly, this collection is pretty large at 500 puzzles and they range from mate-in-one to mate-in-eighteen (I believe). Thankfully, the number of puzzles are plentiful for us mere mortals on the lower end of the calculation scale. I will add there is also a timer and a hint system. The board and pieces are somewhat customizable as well. Nice app. Fun and challenging.
This app is a lot of fun!
I especially like the problems where you have to find the checkmate in three or four moves ahead. It gives me much needed practice in visualizing what the board will look like depending on which decision I make
