Great tool to learn the abacus on your own
After having graduated many years ago, I decided to learn to use an abacus as a precursor to delving back into math. I’ve read a couple of books on using an abacus (e.g., “The Japanese Abacus”) but never felt like I understood what they were saying. This tutorial is well written (although several grammatical errors make it clear that it was translated) and provides a great explanation of using the abacus. I finally understand what the other books I read were trying to say but were unable to do in as clear a fashion as this tutorial. I’m also a bit leery about the two-hand method but I’m definitely going to give it a try. I only have two minor annoyances. First, I wish the Abaculator had the option of allowing the user to manually step through the explanation with a “next step” button rather than having to pause and continue the explanation. This, however, is a minor point. Also, it would be nice to have the “Abacus Trainer” functionality (I.e, practice problems) in the app rather than being a separate app. Nevertheless, I’m happy to finally have found an abacus tutorial that I understand.
