Nice app, but it needs a bar scanner.
I have been using this app now for 5 years. I have loved it. However, it crashes out of nowhere every few months. I am forced to delete it, including all of my manually entered favorites, and previous logs. There is no update to fix the crashing. I open the app, and as soon as I try to log something it crashes. I am so fed up with this issue.
We've been using this app for our cpku daughter for 3 months now and it works well except for a few things... I like how you can add recipes and it calculates total phe except it doesn't have a way to input final weight of a recipe. You have to add so many grams of water to get the final weight up to get an accurate mg/g calculation. Also, you can't just add an item to a daily log without having to put it in the database. That's very frustrating when you know your child had 10mg of phe from one cookie for example, you have to add all the information of the cookie to the database in order to add it to the log. That's time consuming.
Every time I try to add a new item it zeros out the totals of that item. And since the items that are on there are almost exclusively specialty foods I have add almost everything from scratch because that's how I make a large majority of my meals. Seriously wanting a refund.
The app has everything someone would need to track phe or protein count, as well as, ability to share the information with dietician/etc. However, I'm using it for my pku toddler and have to enter new foods all the time since the only organic brand they have for babies is earths best. They do seem to have all of the gerber products though. The nice thing is entering new items is fairly simple and it's in their for future use. Previous to this I was logging on an excel sheet but I like the portability this offers and that if I'm not sure about the phe content for a food when we're out I can use the app to look it up quickly. It also allows you to input your blood level results so you can track them over time which is pretty cool. I'm giving it a three because I had to input so many new foods but otherwise it would have easily gotten a five since it does everything you'd need it to. I don't usually pay for apps but I feel I got my money's worth.
Everything you need to manage a PKU diet at your fingertips! Love the Export to Email function for keeping long term records, too!
Love the app HOWEVER....I have noticed lately that many Cambrooke Foods items are incorrect with their phe value. Example: tonight making a quesadilla for my son with the new tortilla wraps and the app gives 26.1 mg phe per tortilla whereas the packaging gives 4 mg phe per tortilla. That is a huge difference and could cause many problems. Please fix these mistakes.
There is a plus icon on all of the other log screens, but no such button to add data to dietary log? PLEASE FIX.
Edit Aug 27: I am frustrated that when I go to change the time when I am first entering a food sometimes it gives me the option to save the new time and other times it doesn't. I than have to go back into the log and change the time. Have only used the new update a couple of times, but I am dissapointed that the favorite button has been moved to be under more instead of in the middle. This is the function I use to find the food Im inputting. This might just be me, but its disappointing to have to go through the extra step. I have no need for the new middle meal option as I don't search by meal, protein phe, etc...
This app is great in theory but the difference in Phe levels from our food list and the ones here are troublesome. The blood levels area should be able to track different levels such as Phe and Tyrosine for each level taken or at least have a comments/notes area to notate items on each level taken ie: sick today, running fever, or tyrosine high need to recheck etc. all in all would be great to be able to use daily but need to find time to adjust info so that we can use it.
