I’ve have been looking for this kind of instruction for a long time. Great teacher! Love your paintings and hope to paint as good as you someday. Also, is there a way to show our paintings to Micheal…I think it would be nice/fun … probably more for us to get his input on how we are doing.

I’ve been watching Michael James Smith since he first started on YouTube. I still struggled a bit because time-lapses gave me the idea that this was a fast style of painting and it didn’t really click for me until I watched MJS’s tutorials. They were just what I needed to learn how to take my painting to another level. For me, especially, I learned how to mix color better, techniques and how to manipulate either the brush or the paint to achieve details. In my opinion, it’s always best to learn from the best and Michael is among the best. Paint on!

I’ve just started learning to paint and even after one lesson I can tell I’m really going to enjoy this. Michael breaks every step down into something that even a complete novice like myself can comprehend. Can’t wait to continue learning!

I subscribe to three landscape artist online. Michael Smith is by far the most detailed and easy to follow lessons. I'm in my early 70's, retired and completed three of his landscape lessons. I would recommend Michael's online lessons to anyone. Great artist!!!!

It is helpful to see the basics in action. The way blocking in allows a person to focus on the details instead of the composition and sizing. I painted years ago but watching you gives me hope to up my game even in my later years of life.

I can’t thank you enough for sharing, most artists don’t do that. I am unbelievably lucky to have stumbled on these lessons, I found them when I was looking up myself on the internet to see what was out there and lucky for me we have the same name, Michael James. My painting ability has grown beyond where I was and beyond what I thought I could do. Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much).

I’m an experienced professional artist in several other mediums other than oil. I’ve also studied under many masters to improve my skills in these other mediums. So…I’ve always had a strong interest in understanding and mastering the oil painting medium. I explored many online workshops, and online instruction by several masters. I settled on Michael’s courses fairly quickly. He covers many subjects and these subjects are complex, well lit with great shadows and the step by step instructions are nothing less than superb. His site is well organized, easy to navigate and he is easy to understand. I highly recommended studying under him here. Whether you’re a beginner or well skilled, you’ll not regret it.
