Desperately needs a guide for clarity
I’m trained in microbiology, so I know what many of the words mean in the microbe’s creation ‘menu’. However, there really needs to be more clarity about what each section does. For example, the category ‘Nutrient’: does selecting ‘Phototroph’ mean the microbe ‘feeds upon phototrophs’ or ‘the microbe is able to use ambient light as an energy source’? Having experimented with this and turning off the ambient light, the bugs divided just fine, making me assume it’s the first option. But it just isn’t clear, and if so, how do I design microbes that *are* dependent on light? Also, there appears to be no functional difference between ‘toxin’, ‘destruction’ and ‘phagocytosis’ in the dish. Whichever you choose, the attacking microbe just bumps into the target microbe and the target disappears. I assumed toxins would be released into the dish at least? I’d also like to be able to graphically understand the population change over time. I know this isn’t supposed to be a scientific tool, but understanding how attributes changed over time, as opposed to some Fortnite ‘last microbe standing’ in the dish seems to be essential to learning what you’re looking at. I love the idea of this app, but it’s frustrating as designed. Simply too difficult to understand and meaningfully manipulate. It’s interest is fleeting and superficial at this point.
