Mindomo is great, the app is only ok
I moved from another mindmap maker that had very many glitches to Mindomo. It has been an overall pleasure to use, it’s versatile and powerful. I wish the app were better though. It is still ok on the core things that matter: - The offline mode seems to work with pretty good syncing once back online. However, it is not 100% - right now I just came back from two days without internet, and mindomo is caught in a loop trying to sync, saying “autosaving changes failed.”** - The overall functionality is good for mindmaps. It gets slow with large mindmaps, but when they are collapsed down it speeds up - The graphical display of the mindmaps is good, lots of options Now, here are the problems: - there is no commenting feature. this is a big oversight. it forces me to use the web browser version (which has its own glitches on ipad) - there is no way that I can find to do “quick entry” on the ipad with a keyboard. Hitting “return” or “enter” just makes a new line in the node rather than a new node. This is a real pain. I have tried every keyboard combo imaginable to try to create the equivalent of an “enter” key for a new node. The only way that I found that works is to use the browser version - The user interface on the app version is different than on the web version. Too much so. When I go back and forth, it’s hard to remember which things are where. So, I just created a “Web app” on the ipad and mostly use that, except when I’m going offline (there are lots of places in my part of the world without any internet whatsoever). The “Web app” has its own glitches, but by and large is better than the regular app. Now that I lost some data for lack of proper offline sync with the offline version***, I’m going to give up on using the app version at all. ** note to Mindomo team, I did lose my changes. It stayed stuck in a loop, and then I had to force quit mindomo. After restarting it made me log in again, and when I browsed to the mindmap, it had lost my changes (#$!). You need to have it give a longer login timeout than just two days. Losing material now makes me lower my review by another star.
