Q: WHO IS THIS APP FOR?
1) Music instructors with a BASIC understanding of modal theory who want to increase their confidence and effectiveness in teaching this fairly complex topic.
2) Music instructors with a COMPLETE understanding of modal theory who are looking for an easier, more consolidated approach to teaching and practicing the material with students.
3) Intermediate to advanced music students who are proficient in pentatonic and major scales and are interested in achieving more expressive guitar improvisation / melody creation.
Q: MODAL THEORY LITERATURE IS AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE - WHY BUY THIS APP?
The breadth of freely available information about modal theory is the main reason it’s so difficult to learn (and teach) - there is simply too much out there, and much of it is poorly written or incorrect; a recipe for confusion! Teaching modal theory effectively requires a distillation and simplification of core concepts, organized strategically so they're easy for students to learn - and a method for applying those skills during lessons.
For less than the cost of an average theory book, we've consolidated and organized modal theory into it's finest form, and hand-crafted a completely custom experience, ideal for mastering the material. We know you and your students will love our approach!

Nice app

Good explanation and usability. Meanwhile I get the message that it will not run on the next Version of IOS. Hope that will be solved BEFORE the next IOS version will be available. Would’ve nice if you could print out the charts/fingerings!

Good for beginners

The explanation of modes is very straight forward and to the point. The layout of the app is great, except for the sorting of the diagrams. For me personally the root positions should be fix and the pattern should change. At least that’s how I think about applying a mode. (E.g. For any given root - which pattern do I need to play Dorian) The quality of the backing tracks is nice and for the most part captures the mood of what I expect the mode to sound like. For a serious music theory app the fact that I can’t see the chords I‘m playing over is quite disappointing, tho. And in the end one track per mode is a bit poor. It would be enough to teach modes if it wasn‘t for the Aeolian track that just doesn’t feel right to me. (I keep hearing A as the root instead of E and my melodies just won’t fit the way I’m used to) Aeolian is what I play most by far, but this track sounds wrong to my ears. Worth the money? If you have a hard time constructing the correct pattern per position on your own and if it’s hard for you to come by decent backings then yes. For me at this point it’s just about memorizing which pattern to use in which position and I have backing tracks to put on my phone. So I‘ll probably not use this app a lot.
