I like to religiously track many random things in my life. One of them being movies / tv shows. On top of tracking I like to see trends. This app tells you what actors, directors, genres, days you’ve watched, etc! I love love love this app! Not to mention I am super picky on the design of apps. I often buy apps and delete so much because I dont like the feel or look. I am super annoyingly picky. I also saw that they have book trackers as well as others. I am in heaven!
A beautiful idea
I love this app. Please continue to develop.
Why no import?
This is fine but there’s no apparent way to import from Letterboxd, My Movies, or other apps.
Changed business model
Ooh, I was going to leave a five star review and I see I technically have “movie tracker original” and it has changed to “pro” to get what I have??? HATE when apps do this. Makes reviews untrustworthy - I can’t in good faith review it because I may be reviewing something someone is asked to pay way more for?? Yikes on bikes. I like the app. I don’t like that “in the future” I may need movie tracker pro. Going to go elsewhere so my time tracking isn’t wasted.
Looked so good. So disappointed
Once you select location that is only place it searches for items. Then item must be fairly mainstream will not find any obscure or newer titles.
Good app, but user experience not there yet
I like the app, visual design is nice, and I am able to make it work for me. But it’s cumbersome to use for the the most common tasks it’s meant for.
One is you can’t use it to easily track movies you’ve watched in the past because entering a movie as watched requires a date. So you either have to make a best guess on when you might’ve seen the movie, invent your own convention for entering stuff like using the movie’s release date as the “watch date”, or you just track movies you’ve watched since getting this app. All of these options stink.
The second issue is to log a movie as watched, the movie must first live in a “space”. This is either the Backlog space, or a custom space you create. Adding a movie to the Backlog is fine when you’re tracking something to watch in the future. But once you watch it, and you mark it as watched, the movie will appear in a Watched space (which is nice) but you are required to either leave the movie in the Backlog space (which doesn’t make sense since you’ve now watched it), or it has to be moved to another space you create and name. This is frustrating. The movie is already in the Watched space. That’s all you need most of the time. Why does it have to live in an additional space. It’s nice to have this as an option in case I want to organize what I’ve watched into additional buckets, but it shouldn’t be imposed. I end up having to invent unnecessary “spaces” just so I can mark a movie as watched.
Again, the app looks nice and you can make it work for you, but for a movie tracking app, it doesn’t have a user friendly or efficient workflow for adding watched movies.
Almost Perfect
Really good. If they add custom entries and the ability to edit movies and shows, this app would be perfect.
Manual Log
Cool app but maybe y’all should add the option to manually log stuff on your own like with the book tracker app of yours, tmdb or whatever y’all use doesn’t have everything
Junk - lost my movies
Bought the app for $11. Put a couple of hundred movies in. About a month later, they’re all gone. No reason either. App was current. iOS was current. Developer said I should have used iCloud. No, I shouldn’t have to. I don’t use iCloud for anything. I paid $11 for junk.
I’d love to give five, but…
So, I adored Book Tracker, so I got Movie Tracker as a no-brainer and immediately upgraded. I love being able to track the things I’ve seen and need to see instead of filtering through my watch lists on every streaming platform I have. There’s no real learning curve to it, and I’ve already amassed nearly 200 films on this thing. The app’s functionality is nearly perfect, except…
In Book Tracker, it’s easy to select multiple things at once to lump into a category or add tags. As far as I can tell, with Movie Tracker, I have to do things one at a time… and I watch a LOT of movies and shows, so all the extra steps add up! (If there IS actually a way to select multiple films/shows at once and I’m missing it, I will happily retract this section of the review.) I’d also REALLY like to be able to control what categories a film falls in, like in Book Tracker. Some of the automatic selections aren’t accurate.
Also, I really wish there was a way I could mark something as watched without needing to put in a date. There are lots of classic films I’ve watched in the last couple of years and I want to make a list of these, but I don’t remember exactly when I saw everything, so the statistics are skewed. Perhaps there’s a way to not attach a date that would just make the movie not count toward your statistics? I’m not sure how that would work, logistically, but punching in dates at random for things I saw a really long time ago is a bit tedious. I know I watched them, just not when!
The positives, though, are more than enough reason for me to not regret spending on the app. No crashes thus far, and the UI is pretty intuitive to me. Aside from my little nitpicks, the app is otherwise flawless. Get the full version and support good indie work!
