The information with this website is so basic. You will get more in depth information from Wikipedia! This app only lists the minimum information. I want to know who is playing what instrument, I hoped there would be some back story or liner notes but nope.
Well, the App Store ate my original review. But there’s nothing else like this on the App Store. One of the tips in Help said that if you’re listening to the song, you can find a podcast where that song or artist is mentioned. Continuous play works by after you hit now playing it will automatically pull up all information available as you’re listening. You can customize what information is shown about an album under sections in the app settings. And all of these features are free. I just feel that real efforts have been made to make this app accessible and easy to use. Music Harbor is also a fantastic app. I agree with the person that bemoaned the loss of the original information from the vinyl album covers. But if it hasn’t been digitized in catalog, there’s nothing that can be done to ever get that back.
Liner notes? Fat chance! I’ve found more info on Wikipedia than I’ve EVER found here…
Love this app! Brings me back to when I bought physical copies of albums and would spend time going through all the lyrics and liner notes to find little nuggets of guest appearances, writers and all the other fun facts you would find. It was something I genuinely missed in this digital age of music. Thanks for creating this app!
Yes we do! That’s what I thought I was getting. The words “Liner Notes” are below the name of this app. To me, Liner Notes are what is inside the record jacket, on the record sleeve or on the back of the record jacket. Sometimes there wasn’t much but sometimes there were comments by the artists, types of instruments used including amps, pedals, strings, cymbals and even golf clubs. Sometimes there was funny stuff, jabs at other musicians or even song lyrics. There was front cover art. There was back cover art and if you were lucky enough to get a double album there was double notes and art work. I checked before I wrote this and there are no real liner notes here. No inside art, no back cover art, No notes, The explanations included are just there to take up space. Example; Songwriter. A person who writes the song. I’ll keep hoping for change but I wish I had just tried the 1 Month trial before going all in.
At least for classical NO LINER NOTES. nothing beyond that which apple gives
MusicSmart had been one of my favorite apps and really enhanced my listening pleasure of Apple Music. Then there was an update several weeks ago, and now all I get is the writer and the producer of each song. No longer is there a detailed breakdown of who played what instrument on a song and that’s the main reason I bought this app. Now if I want to know that info, I have to go back to Wikipedia, just like I did before buying this app. Total fail!
Unless I’m having a difficult time navigating the updated app, it seems like all the actual “liner notes” are no longer available. There’s a wealth of information within the app, and it seems pretty well laid out since I was a more regular user, but the liner notes from old vinyl records that I used to be able to access through the app don’t seem to be there anymore. I imagine it could be a licensing thing, but it’s a shame. And if there are no actual liner notes, it makes the app name a bit misleading.
Great in concept but too often it glitches and delivers only cursory song data. When looking at Genius, I nevertheless see all of the song liner note information. Keep working on it, A for concept and effort…
