Description

MyShake is a comprehensive and free earthquake app offering these features:
Earthquake Early Warnings
Receive timely, potentially life-saving early warning alerts in California, Oregon and Washington. MyShake uses the USGS ShakeAlertTM system to deliver alerts for earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 (or greater) several seconds before shaking arrives.
Earthquake Safety
View safety tips for earthquake preparedness such as securing hazardous or moveable items and creating a disaster plan. Know what to do during an earthquake and learn more about Drop, Cover and Hold On!
Earthquake Map and Details
View and explore a map of earthquakes around the world and get detailed information such as earthquake magnitude, location and depth. Share your own experience of an earthquake and see community reports of shaking and damage.
Earthquake Notifications
Stay informed of earthquakes as they occur by receiving notifications on your phone. Select your regions of interest and the earthquake magnitude. You’ll never miss out on any earthquake greater than magnitude 3.5!
Smartphone-Based Global Seismic Network
Participate in a smartphone-based global seismic network. In this research project, your phone becomes a mini-seismometer and contributes to the detection of earthquakes wherever you are. This global citizen-science based seismic network has the potential to provide early warning earthquake alerts in every region of the world, even in the absence of traditional seismic networks!

MyShake Reviews

Nice UI, that’s about it…

Polren on

United States

Worthless, today we had a 4.9 shake in So Cal, and hours later the app still shows the last event 7 days ago… Don’t count on it’s accuracy.

App doesn’t work

miguel341 on

United States

It won’t send out alerts of earthquakes. Other earthquake apps are better. Need to fix the app.

All no good

Didn’t give warning

Vocal test of earthquake warning system

Falling Lots on

United States

I just got surprised by a vocal test of the earthquake warning system while I was wearing my headphones. I am angry that I didn’t know there was going to be a test. I am angry that it was vocal. I am angry that it was over my headphones at an uncomfortable volume. I’d rather take the earthquake without warning than that confluence of conditions. At least I consent to living where there are earthquakes in advance.

Non-native, Google-dependent UI

BrodyHoskins on

United States

Overall the app is great and has potential, but using an iOS native UI would be a nice touch (rather than the Android adjacent appearance) as well as ditching Google Maps for something more privacy oriented (OpenStreetMap) or native to the platform (Apple Maps).

Doesn’t work

United States

Twice I felt an earthquake. Google and USGS says that there’s an earthquake near me but when I say I feel shaking in the app, it says no earthquakes nearby

Worked great today.

OCGirl2021 on

I received an audible alert that said Earthquake, Drop, Cover and Hold On. I jumped up and got under my desk. I never felt shaking, but there was an earthquake nearby. It is nice to get a couple second notice to protect yourself. Go Bears!

Earthquake hit no report

Richierich033 on

United States

I felt an obvious earthquake in sf. Tried to report and it said no earthquakes done. Useless app and waste of taxpayer dollars.

Crashes

MaitreMind on

United States

Crashes when setting a location to report experience.

The app is great!

Gilbe rto on

This app is very good, it alerted me about 6 seconds before shaking over here in El Centro in February. Overall, great app for alerts but there is a suggestion I want to make, there should be an option that lets you adjust the option at what minimum magnitude you get alerts from.
