Description

This official app is a portal for exploring the diverse lands and heritage sites managed by the U.S. Forest Service. A powerful exploration tool, this app allows you to discover forests near you and can help you explore each destination's points of interest. Use this app for easy access to forest facts, natural, cultural, and historic information, offline and GPS maps, recreational opportunities, and other essential visitor information to enjoy our National Forests and Grasslands.
The perfect companion for your next forest adventure or armchair travels, each app was developed by the forest unit’s rangers and interpretive staff and features a variety of content, including educational audio tours and natural and historic imagery. Plan your itinerary of things to see and do with easy access to information regarding recreational opportunities, trails, maps, and visitor centers.
Each forest destination can be downloaded individually from the portal, allowing you to stay up to date with your favorite destinations through push notifications alerts for closures and events. Connect with Visitor Centers and Ranger Stations using one-tap calling and submit valuable feedback or report concerns with surveys. OnCell has worked closely with each forest as the official provider of their mobile apps.

You can expect additional forests to be added to this app over time, as the U.S. Forest Service continues it's commitment to provide exciting and relevant visitor information in easy to access formats.

National Forest Explorer Reviews

Most forests have no info available in the app

Like many of the USFS websites, many are lacking up to date details. Same for this app but even worse as vast majority of the Forests have no data for this app.

Fun way to explore the National Forests

Not easy to use. I didn’t find useful info - maybe it’s in there but couldn’t access it.

I’ve camped in USFS campgrounds for over 50 years in many states in all kinds of campers and tents. I’ve never had a bad experience. I’ve also rented a lookout tower and had a very memorable experience with my children who now have kids of their own. I wish the Forest Service was better funded. They could do an even better job. No value

What are they even doing with this app? There is nothing here except a list of ranger stations. Not worth the data to download

Doesn’t Work 😖

This app has NEVER worked on my iPhone 12. Every time I open it, it asks to download new content. It doesn’t matter whether I agree to or not. I can call up a list of national forests, but that’s where the information ends. It tick a forest name — nothing happens. I have tried for months to use this app. I gave up and deleted it.

Map View Locator

Nice to have a compact on-the-go guide to locating Nat’l Forest lands. Alphabetical or map view makes easy to find w/o draining battery with “location” usage in app. Only way to make better is if NPS & NF could partner up on ONE consolidated app to locate all lands to access with annual/senior pass.

Almost perfect

Very helpful app. Would help if you could search for a forest by state.

Unfulfilled potential

I downloaded this app hoping it would be similar to the excellent NPS app. It looks like after getting off to a good start in 2019, support for this app has stalled. Information for my local national forest (San Bernardino) is hopelessly out of date and does not match current information on the San Bernardino National Forest website (which appears to be current and correct). I am currently camping in a campground (Serrano) that this app says is “temporarily closed.” I sent feed back to the developer a few weeks ago and never heard back.
