National Park Finder Reviews

Fun Simple App

App is a basic compilation of Nat’l Parks, Monuments, Historic Sites, etc. Map is helpful to see what’s close & list has info that’s useful. I’d give 5 stars if user could change the color of the pins to document what sites have been visited (past or present) & what dates. Cute app icon- don’t change!

Not very useful

Doesn't have information on each site beyond its name and where it's located; for more information it just opens up the NPS.gov website. UI is rather clunky. I couldn't find a place to 'check off' a site to say that I'd visited, though I think there was a screenshot in the app store showing that screen.

Disappointing; inadequate, corrections needed and very basic

The app itself is interesting for those interested in the National Park system, but offers only rudimentary information. It also needs to be updated and corrections need to be made; I noticed that in the geographic location of Vicksburg Military Park (Mississippi) it is mislabeled as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which is in Washington, D.C. Also a new park in Waco Texas has not been added yet even though at this point it has been open a couple of months. This was after 5 minutes of looking at the app, so it's hard to believe that these are the only mistakes it contains. I'm sure there were good intentions with this app but unfortunately it is not yet ready for prime time.

Don't bother

Says you can pin which parks you have been to, you cannot. Only reason we tried was to keep track of the parks visited, and this app does not do that, as they claimed. Misleading? Deliberate? Incompetent? Just trying to get money before being shut down? Would not spend the .99 as not worth even that.

Updates? No thanks

Downloaded the most recent updates for this program, and now it only displays a map with no parks indicated, and the search function does not work. Previously, could list parks near current location, that is no longer available. Has lost all utility. Deleted and re-installed, so I am now able to search and use the map, but changes from the previous version make the app less useful, without color coding of map pins by type of park, and helpful links for each park have been removed. Hopefully the next version will restore these changes.

Don't update

New update now can't see anything but where you are. Was five star before the update. Ok I uninstalled app and then reinstalled now it works again but still not as well as before the update.

Vicksburg Military Park shows as Vietnam Memorial, Washington, DC. How can I trust the locations that I am not familiar with?

I have mixed feelings about this app. First, I'm glad NPS joined the app world, but they could have done so much more with this. For example, it would kick butt if trails were detailed on the map. While the description, picture and link to the parks' site are helpful, there are too many steps involved to get more information on them. I'd like to quickly pull up a park, see the trails (and whether or not they're dog-friendly) and be on my way, ready to explore. That type of feature would be especially handy on family road trips. The GW Parkway is listed as park, but it's also a long road, with parks within it, like Turkey Run, which has trails. If people could see that right away, it would just make more sense. I suppose it depends what NPS's focus was in developing the app. I'm way to ADD to search through the parks NPS web site in order to peek at what trails are around the area. Some of their maps aren't very good. I didn't know the Mount Vernon trail intersected with so many others, until I ran it. Handy app to have, though. Good starting point, NPS.
