Description

The complete Gregorian chant, including many world-premiere recordings, synchronized with square-note scores, accompanied by the neumatic notations of St. Gall and Laon, Latin texts, and translations into English, is now available in your pocket! Neumz is the largest recording project ever undertaken, more than 9000 hours of music of transcendental beauty for the soul sung by the community of Benedictine nuns of Notre-Dame de Fidélité de Jouques and the Benedictine monks of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux. Sacred chants soothe us, deepen our souls, unite us to God, lift our spirits, and bring us into a more intimate relationship with the Eternal Father. Let yourself be carried away by the flowing, vibrant, immensely expressive melodic movement of Gregorian chant: pray, meditate, and become aware of what is essential to our project; everyone in peace, united in sacred praise. Enjoy this universal chant to God, which can accompany you in your moments of prayer and meditation on the Word, thus elevating your spirit. Neumz accompanies you in this connection and intimacy with God.
“The recordings of clear unaccompanied voices are speckled with authentic sounds such as the creak of wooden benches, the occasional coughing or dropping of prayer books and bell chimes.” The Guardian

COMPLETE LATIN RITE
Neumz is the first complete recording and digital source of liturgical materials for the Roman Rite: the entire contents of the Psalter, Lectionary, Collectary, Antiphonary, Responsoriary, and Gradual are assembled into a "Liber Digitalis," now featuring both Novus and Vetus Ordo.
Neumz presents the liturgy with an easy-to-use solar calendar.
The chants of the Divine Office and the Ordinary and Propers of the Mass are presented in their natural context.
HOW IT WORKS
Create or log in to your existing account.
Carry the entire Divine Office in your pocket!
Follow the square note score of each chant, synchronized to scroll with the music.
Follow the Latin texts with their English translation as they scroll line by line to the music.
Soothing and calming, this music is seemingly suspended in an eternal oscillation, at once both reaffirming and canceling the sensation of time, inducing a meditative state by simultaneously enhancing focus and relaxation.
GREGORIAN CHANT
Gregorian chant is the music of the Western Church, sung for over 1000 years without interruption. The Benedictine order adopted it as the music for its prayers and has cultivated it ever since.
The serene sounds of these ancient chants have proven to be a real source of calm for our users worldwide, regardless of beliefs. This medieval music is perfect for prayer, meditation, focus and relaxation.
THE ABBEYS
The Abbey of Notre-Dame de Fidélité is a monastery of Benedictine nuns located in Jouques, near Aix-en-Provence, France. The growth of the community allowed them to found the monastery Notre-Dame de l’Écoute in Benin and L’Abbaye Notre-Dame de Miséricorde in Rosans. As of 2020, the community in Jouques includes forty-five sisters.
The Abbey of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux is also in French Provence. A community of over fifty monks chant the Tridentine Rite and cultivate the land to make wine, olive oil, lavender, and bread. The Vetus Ordo recordings were funded through Repertorium.eu, a Horizon Europe research and innovation grant.

Wow!

I wonder... on

United Kingdom

What an unexpectedly wonderful app! I saw a random advert for this is and it intrigued me as love meditating and relaxing to Gregorian chant and church type music. So I downloaded it and it surpassed my expectations, in terms of usability and content. Great little app. Whether you use it for religious purposes or simply to relax with and contemplate, really beautiful. God bless to the creators of it. Thank you.

Beautiful

This app is great. It is basically the Novus Ordo mixed with the Benedictine Divine Office. Thankfully also I have heard, that there will be a fully Vetus Ordo option with the specific office of Prima in the fall. Overall great app. It’s a new app and still going through its early development but it is overall well done. Thanks.

A blessing this Lent 2023

A beautiful compilation and a true gift from the sisters to the world. Many many thanks as these chants accompany on my Lenten journey this year.

An amazing resource

What a gift! …. Except that the autoscroll feature hides the neums that I’m supposed to be singing! I’m sure it’s complex to get things to line up on all the different screens, and I’m sure they’re working on a fix, but the app is frustrating to the point of being unusable for me on my iphone. I hope the makers are able to allocate more resources for the development of this incredible offering.

Devine office prayer book

I LOVE this app and have been using it everyday. I am a person that loves the feel of a book in my hand. Is it possible to purchase the copy of Devine office that the sisters use? Their chants do not line up with any of my devine office copies and I know it’s because the sisters are using a devine office made for monastic use. The problem that I’m having is I want the exact copy the sister’s use so I can go along. I will pay any price and buy from any source. Thank you!

Amazing Treasure of the Faith

This app is a huge gift to humanity! Whether you are learning to chant, wanting to incorporate it into a daily practice or stuck in a parish without chant this app gives you the opportunity to practice with beautiful recordings perfectly lined up with the liturgical year. Since it’s still a work in progress there are some features that will get better with time. It will be fantastic when the search function works well. It would also be great if at some point in addition to searching you could look through an index alphabetical by function (hymn, introit, communion etc). There is the occasional issue with a psalm verse being a different melodically than the recording (example psalm tone written but melismatic line sung) and rarely a screen showing the next chant and stays there until the correct chant is sung. No complaints at all though, so happy to have this amazing resource! It’s a must for all Catholics.

Thank you

Svelte but looking forward to continued development

I like this app and the concept is amazing. It’s very lovely to see the translations light up as the text is sung. I have a few quibbles that I hope get worked out in the course of time: 1-often the chant notation doesn’t sync up correctly. Often it only appears on screen after the text has been sung because it scrolls too slowly. If you’d like to sing along sometimes you’re plum out of luck. 2-the image of the chant scores appears to be a scrolling image file, rather than clean vector graphics (gabc code, for instance) which is annoying. 3-you can’t override auto scroll; since the speed isn’t correct this is frustrating. (And I wish there was an option to have the image flash rather than scroll; constant scrolling can be very taxing after a while. People with car sickness may struggle.) I imagine many of these things will be worked out eventually. Regardless, it’s a great resource as is and it’s an excellent way to peer in on the monastic life and get a sense of their prayer. It’s also a great way to absorb the lived rhythm and cadences of chant by people who do it every day.

Great source for the liturgy of the hours

However, lately I can hear this music in the background which I find distracting from prayer, other than that beautiful experience, it’s like being at the abbey praying along with the nuns.

Glad I found this app
