Description

The Humie app helps kids aged 3-7 and their parents build emotional literacy by integrating reflective practice with popular TV.
Humie meets families where they are, while providing reassurance to parents about their kids' screen time as well as co-watching support. Viewers get to practice skills like perspective-taking and emotion labeling through playful activities with some of their favorite characters.
The app features shows from trusted media content creators like PBS Kids, Disney, BBC Studios and others. Beloved shows like Bluey, Octonauts, Sophia the First, Phineas and Ferb, Arthur, and many others become interactive experiences that build empathy, emotional awareness, and resilience.
Developed by Columbia cognitive scientists with funding from the National Science Foundation, the app has been designed in collaboration with leading kids' media experts, and shown to improve viewers' emotional vocabulary and to increase discussion of emotions at home.
