Nuj is the FIRST alarm clock that uses money to motivate you to get out of bed!
Featured in FastCompany:
"There’s nothing quite like a little financially motivated fear to get you moving in the morning"
— from "These 5 alarm apps are sure to wake you up"
→ How it works:
1. Set an alarm time, and a get up time
2. Add a challenge to prove you got up, e.g. a barcode you have to scan
3. Set a penalty
4. If you don't prove you got up by completing the challenge, e.g. scanning one of the barcodes, by the get up time, you get charged the penalty
For example:
1. Set an alarm for 7:00am with a get up time of 7:05am
2. Add the toothpaste and shampoo barcodes
3. Add a $10 penalty
4. Alarm goes off at 7:00am
5. Get up and scan the toothpaste barcode before 7:05am. Or, don't, and lose $10 (goes to charity)
→ Have you ever turned your phone off to avoid getting up from a different alarm clock app? Nuj is the ONLY alarm clock that includes cheat detection by storing alarms in the cloud! No more cheap tricks!

Nuj Alarm Clock FAQ
Is Nuj Alarm Clock free?
Yes, Nuj Alarm Clock is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Nuj Alarm Clock legit?
✅ The Nuj Alarm Clock app appears to be high-quality and legitimate. Users are very satisfied.
Pretty braindead option to paywall the entire point of this app. If u want money from this just make a portion of the donation go to you or atleast give the option. Why would i pay a separate subscription to donate? The only reason i liked this app initially was because the money was going to charity, the costs for this app could be offset within the main function and very few would care. Now if ur main concern is making as much as possible then the current system makes more sense.
FINALLY!
Without a doubt the BEST (and only) alarm clock app you’ll ever need. I tried everything from putting my phone across the room, to super loud alarms, and nothing KEEPS me awake like making me go out to my kitchen and scan the barcode on my protein powder on the high shelf. From there, I just start making my morning smoothie. This has been such a game changer and I’m proud to say I’m now an early riser! 5 stars and a happy customer for life. Great customer support too!
The Dawn's Demanding Drillmaster: Rise or Be Doomed!
The NUJ Alarm Clock is like unto having a personal drill sergeant in thy pocket! The barcode scanning feature doth ensure thou must literally rise from thy bed to silence it. No more idle slumbering—only a frenzied quest for yon barcode! If thou art a chronic snoozer, as I, this app shall deliver unto thy mornings the wake-up call they so rightly deserve. Highly do I recommend it to any who needeth a touch of chaos to start their day!
I got my mornings back.
I absolutely love this app. I did not think I would ever find something to help me get up in the mornings, but then I saw Nuj recommended on a Reddit page. What makes this so successful for me is the inability to cheat my way out of the penalty. I can find every reason and work around to not get up in the morning, but not anymore! I also find that completing 100 steps to avoid the penalty is helpful to getting me out of my morning funk.
Thank you for making my life better!!
Amazing app
I am able to set an alarm to wake up. And not change it because the penalty is linked to the cloud. So I actually go to bed on time. And wake up when I planned to wake up.
The best alarm clock you’ll ever have…
The customer support and alarm features om this app are unmatched.
Fixed my snooze addiction
I thought I was going to be stuck in this endless cycle of being unable to get up. And then I finally found this app in a random Reddit thread. This app WILL get you up, no matter how much you’ve struggled in the past. Nothing but praise for this app and I wish it was more popular so more people’s lives could be changed as well. 10/10 if you struggle waking up, just download it and you won’t regret it!
The ONLY alarm app that actually works
This app has been the only one that’s truly gotten me to wake up in the morning! It seems like the creator of it is also super hands on and listening to customer feedback to continue improving on the app. I think it’s simplicity is superior to any other alarm apps.
The best part is there’s no work around. You can’t delete the app, put your phone on do not disturb or anything. There’s no tricks to bypassing the alarm and the penalty, and this truly is something that has stuck to me to get me to actually wake up in the morning!
And worst case if I do fail to wake up, at least that penalty is going to a charity of my choice! Brilliant idea.
It’s not initially obvious how special this app is!
This developer has done some very clever things to get around the unreliability and battery drain associated with similar apps. It takes a bit more set up, but gives you a more reliable experience and doesn’t drain your battery!
The developer is also very active and responsive (versus other apps being abandoned or having problems that never get fixed even in the beta programs!). I am excited to see where this app goes next!
Nice app that uses native iOS alarms
My favorite feature is actually not the barcode scanning/penalty, though those are great. This app gives you the option to install a shortcut that sets up your Nuj alarms as native alarms in iOS, meaning that your alarm will go off as reliably as the built in alarm. I’ve tried many alarm apps over the years and unfortunately I just don’t trust them to go off if the app is in the background. No such problem here!
Besides that, this app is thoroughly thought out for the akrasia-prone user. I’ve set up an alarm system like this in Beeminder before, which was fiddly. This is much easier.
