Has been great for letting my cats in and out
The new auto door control panel is the worst. I need to keep it in power saving mode or the batteries die in a month. If I need to open the door manually it takes forever while in power saving mode. I'm ready to trash this setup and by an entirely new coop. This app and auto door have been nothing more than a complete nightmare.
I am not able to put electricity to it so I use the batteries option. It eats batteries in about 2 weeks leaving the door either stuck open or closed. If I knew the battery option was that bad I would never had bought it.
For the first couple months the automatic door was a dream, but now as the temperatures are dropping it is a nightmare. The batteries die without any warning and must be changed every 2 weeks. Once dead, the chickens are completely trapped in the coop until batteries can be changed. It loses connection to WiFi totally at random and there's nothing you can do about it. When it works it's amazing but you're totally screwed when it spontaneously decides not to.
At first it was awesome, rarely had any issues. Then little by little it started getting worse. Zero response. Door left open. Feeeze when you try to close it from the app. Freeze if you try to manually close it from the coop. The batteries die beyond quickly. It would be awesome if it actually worked correctly. But more times than not it fails.
I updated my auto door to the smart door right away after it was available. I have been extremely happy with it since. I do not use it on my coops and still use the standard Omlet auto door on a timed setting, but I use this for my run and have it set to manual open/close. I prefer to keep my girls in their run in the mornings for laying since they find random places to lay on my property if out and about. I can then open the door from the app in the afternoons, after most have layed, while I’m at work to let them out for free ranging and close it if I’m getting home late when it’s after dark. I’ve had no buggy app issues as others have stated and I have no WiFi issues either. So far it’s been great and works exactly as how I hoped it would.
This new “improved” model that uses WiFi is not conducive to the doors operating and failing often. •The unit is constantly looking for a signal, draining my batteries in days even in the sleepiest of modes. (Even very expensive lithium-ion AA’s don’t last more than 10 days…the old model last MONTHS!) •I also bought a range extender for my signal to be plugged in outside. So far the extras have totaled $80 and it still is NOT DEPENDABLE. I got this to replace the old model (manual operation and automated at the unit, no app needed) that started to fail after a year. IMO, this is not a good fix to the old model’s wiring issues and has left me not trusting it to do what it says it will do. Open and close.
I love all of my Omlet products. They are well designed and easy to use. When I heard they upgraded the auto door to be WiFi enabled and connected through the app I was thrilled. Unfortunately the door drops connection easily and the only way to reconnect is by putting your phone next to the control panel. This defeats the purpose when it’s late at night or when you’re away. I hope the design gets better quickly or I’ll need to convert my door back to the old style. Definitely disappointed with my purchase.
This is so frustrating. We bought this expensive door so we could have peace of mind while on vacation. However, the app shows the door status as “pending,” after opening and closing multiple times on its own. When I try to close it, it opens right back up, then closes, then opens back up, and so on. So now my poor chickens are either stuck in the coop for the remainder of our vacation, or they’ll be sleeping with the door wide open- I don’t even know the status of the door because it just says “pending.” Beyond frustrated and worried.
Cannot actually see light levels in the app because it is buggy. Please fix this and allow us to zoom in on the time by the minute to see actual accurate light levels. This would greatly help!
