The alarm started going off for no reason after about a year being installed. No fire, no smoke, no CO. Did not properly alert me on my phone while it was happening. Could not silence it though the app, I could only silence it momentarily on the hardware. Ended up having to deactivate it, only to be woken up again the next night by the (now deactivated) device telling me it’s battery was low. Had to take the whole thing apart with a screwdriver at 2am to get it to stop.
Like others have said, there are several problems with these products and tech-support is nonexistent. I am not receiving notifications for this life safety system. I wish there was a class action. And sometimes there are false alarms. Too frustrated to articulate my anger and frustration right now.
The app has no + button to add a smoke alarm to the app
Unsafe. Unusable. Garbage. All I can say is these don’t work. The app doesn’t work. HomeKit doesn’t work. The 9 alarms I have randomly go off now due to a software update. I cannot shut alarm off. No history or notification saying which one is triggering it. First alert is no help. They don’t apparently think it’s serious enough. They are only fire alarms that are meant for safety. This company sells a non functioning product, with a non functioning app, with no service or intention of ever making it work properly. Apple should not allow the app on the AppStore. It is unsafe.
Slowest pairing and set up I’ve ever had with smart home devices and I think I have close to 100 total devices in my house.
This smoke alarm goes off randomly by itself unpredictably and cannot be shut off by the app, nor by the big button in the center that is made for just that purpose. I finally had to wrap it up in a blanket and throw it in the dishwasher to get my sanity back. I’ve had the OneLink Smoke Alarm with C02 monitoring in my home for two years now and integrated it with my Apple HomeKit. The alarm has a tendency to go off by itself in the middle of the night sending everyone into a frenzy. There’s a button in the center of the alarm that’s supposed to silence it — does not work. The app is supposed to let you silence it — does not work either. I disconnect it from the power and it’ll still go off screaming like a demon. The app will go through its process several times saying it will silence the alarm and then tell you the alarm was silenced successfully — does not work because the alarm is going insane. I’m not writing this to try and sound funny nor entertaining. I’m am at this point completely strung out at 3:30 am because everyone’s sitting around looking at each other in the aftermath of a major disaster. I was trying to find documentation online on how to properly kill this short of using a shotgun. I noticed there is writing on the back of the smoke alarm on how to disable the battery but it was only legible if you have a microscope. By the time I got my magnifier ready the alarm finally shut itself off, which at this time was about 15 minutes. I looked online for this app, and the app reviews suggest the company has abandoned supporting this product. I will see if I can get my money back from Home Depot.
For the price of the devices this should be a far better application and enable many more features than it does. Also it’s ability to communicate with each device is not reliable.
Just bought a First Alert smoke alarm. The Onelink app can’t scan the QR code. The Onelink app does not recognize the numeric code if entered manually. Is this app a prank? I have, however, successfully connected the smoke alarm to my Ring app and it seems to be working fine. I plan to keep the smoke alarm for now
21 days ago when the 3-year old smoke detector sounded at 10pm that it had expired I opened a support case with First Alert. Three weeks later there has been no response other than the case number and a “we will respond within 1 business day” message.
