Open Granular

Though it’s more various kinds of ‘noise’ (white, pink, etc) than granular. Besides the pads, it took me a moment to figure out vertical dragging to change the other settings not affected by the pads. This app is a lot of sound fun! Too bad it won’t play in the background nor keeps its setting when shut down.

This app is seriously incredible (and seriously, no strings attached free)!!! And it proves the notion I have always had in putting my best work into Open Source projects, like the Linux kernel: I’m not the only one that puts my best work into a job, without expecting some sort of financial gain in return. The dev(s) that made this app have made something really awesome here! This is seriously an incredible app, on par with the level of quality that is coming out of the AudioKit and VCV Rack projects. Seriously, I am blown away! The only thing I am struggling with on my iPhone 11 Pro Max is how to go about changing the attack/decay settings of the adjustable envelope. Both parameters are grayed out by default when I open a project, and I can adjust everything except these two items. I’m going to reach out for support, as I’m sure it is just something I’m doing wrong. Check this app out if you want to explore granular, and maybe you’re not yet sure if you’re ready to invest $5-25 on the concept. This is like a free swimming pool to test the waters, and it still has a diving board, a water slide, and cool water cannons, just like the fancier water parks it is emulating. Check it out for yourself; you have no reason not to download and test it out 😃
