Description

Other Desert Cities, named after a famous sign on the I-10 highway leaving Los Angeles, is a workshop for creativity. As its namesake implies, there are many strange and wonderful things lurking inside. With six algorithms, each with its own unique personality, and extensive modulation capabilities, Other Desert Cities can fill multiple niches, from basic stereo dual delays to never-before-heard granular pitch-shifting chaos.
Algorithms
Desert Shores Stereo Delay. This is a standard dual delay, with basic EQ, saturation, crossfeed, and spread.
Mecca Reverse Delay. A normal dual delay, except the repeats play backwards.

Cactus Dual-Delta Delay. This is more like a pair of tape delays in use, with individual speed controls and pitch quantizing.
Thermal Mullti-Tap Delay. A dual multi-tap, with spread, crossfeed, and basic EQ.
Mirage Multi-Head Delay. Imagine if you had a tape delay, but the head was like the rotating head in a VCR. Experimental, strange, and wonderful.
Sky Valley Granular Delay. A pitch-shifting granular delay, with control over grain size and scatter, and with EQ.Algorithms:

Modulation
Other Desert Cities includes a full suite of modulation. Using two tempo-synced variable waveshape LFOs and an envelope follower sourced by either the main inputs or a sidechain input, nearly every control in the entire user interface can be modulated extensively, opening up new dimensions of sonic possibility.
Diffusor
Other Desert Cities also includes a diffusor, for "smearing" the feedback path, and bringing ODC near the realm of reverb (especially with the Thermal multi-tap algorithm.)
Levels
Other Desert Cities' secret superpower is its I/O control. Every aspect of the signal chain's gain structure can be controlled and modulated. You don't have to wish for ducking in this delay. Anything can be ducked, panned, oscillated, enveloped, and controlled to your heart's content. Note that the Mute and Input Level controls are input levels to the delay block and do not affect the dry signal; this enables "tails" behavior, and the ability to use an insert effect like a send.

Indispensable

Such a huge array of possibilities, and it sounds gorgeous. Works its way into nearly every track I do. Just beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous sounds

Having heard that AD are imminently going to TRIPLE all their app prices, I wanted to say how great this particular app is and suggest anyone interested grab it while the price is right. You won’t regret your purchase for a second! On a less positive note, I’m reading that the dev’s stated reason for the huge price hike is ‘stupid customers leaving poor reviews which in turn make developing for IOS almost not worth the effort.’ This is staggeringly poor customer relations, and has really turned me - a 5 star reviewer - off considering future products.

A great app

Seriously good… really gets the creativity going and one of the apps I always look forward to getting into a project.

Revolutionary

Audio Damage have always created quality effects apps and I have many of them. Their Enso looper is still something I turn to frequently. ODC is, as expected, amazing. You’re presented with 6 algorithms to get you started. But then you can tweak away to your heart’s content, creating some amazing sounds. But then, if you start side-chaining through AUM feeding one ODC into another, you start to create some very special strangeness and charm. Be careful with this though. Subtlety is definitely the way. Well done AD - another smash!

Fabulous possibilities

I've downloaded a ton of effects apps over the years but this is the one I keep coming back to. It's just beautiful. Throw any sound at it and it'll create epic paths of unfathomable gorgeousness that unfold before you into infinity. An essential purchase for anyone making music on iOS.

Epic delay system …pure aural indulgence! 🏜

ODC is essentially a rare and exotic animal from another dimension aimed at the delay connoisseur. It provides a diverse range of algorithms that take delay into unchartered territories. It’s capable of everything from the subtle to the obscene (and everything in between)! It’s beautifully designed, with a gorgeous GUI and sounds utterly divine on a range of program material! A powerful creative tool with infinite potential, not to be missed - it’s delicious!

Great full-featured delay

Works great in AUM. Tons of crazy creative sounds and options. Can’t recommend highly enough.

iPad Pro and latest version of iPadOS but it never loads.

Favorite delay on iOS

This is my go-to delay for my guitar signal chain. It strikes a perfect balance between ease of use, sound quality, and flexibility/versatility. Coming from the hardware world, I was worried the AUV3 delays for iOS wouldn’t replace my Meris Polymoon, which I loved. I am very pleased with how well this fits the bill.

Dreamscapes to another world!

I am traditionally a hardware guy and avoid DAW’s as they quell my creativity. So AUM and various synths and effects on iOS are acceptable when I am away from my studio. Trying to duplicate this app alone in hardware would be costly. Other Desert Cities sounds phenomenal. I’ve only had it a half hour and I’m already on Arrakis.
