Description

The Oxford American features the very best in Southern writing, while documenting the complexity and vitality of the American South. Billed as "The Southern Magazine of Good Writing," it has won multiple National Magazine Awards and other high honors since it began publication in 1992. The magazine has featured the original work of such literary powerhouses as Charles Portis, Roy Blount, Jr., ZZ Packer, Jesmyn Ward, Donald Harington, Sarah M. Broom, Donna Tartt, and Ernest J. Gaines. The magazine has also published previously unseen work by such Southern masters as William Faulkner, Eudora Welty, Walker Percy, James Agee, Zora Neale Hurston, James Dickey and Carson McCullers, to name just a handful. The New York Times claims that the Oxford American "may be the liveliest literary magazine in America."

Like the title says. I have an online and print subscription but I can’t log in to bypass any paywall articles.

OA in my pocket!

My current new fave app! I like to keep my magazines crisp so this makes it even more accessible to read the issues digitally. I also love the sepia and text to speech features. 10-10!

Rotten is to good

Don't waste your time purchasing content thru this app. I did, all it does is crash when I try to read what I bought. There is no response from magazine staff. Stick to print Oxford American.

Issues?

I purchase both the print & online version of OA magazine (yes, it's that good!). But, where is the Summer 2014 issue? I've had the print version for 3 weeks now, but still no sign of the app version. Disappointing.

Wonderful publication, rotten app.

Unfortunately with no subscription options and a pale PDF reproduction of the print version, this app is a letdown.

Excellent content, well presented

I stumbled on this app by chance. I assume if you're here you're familiar with the Oxford American. Great writing about the American South. While the app is free, the content is not. As of this moment, there are no subscription options (and while I'm not a print subscriber, I see no way to register for access). Instead, there are the 2 most recent issues available for purchase at $2.99 each. The issues are direct reproductions of the print version, down to the ads. The font is fairly tiny, but tapping and pinching to zoom works well, and even the zoomed text looks good on a retina display. One annoyance - when you swipe to the next page, it fills in the page in little blocks, sometimes taking a second or more before the full page loads and can be read. It's the kind of thing they can iron out, though.
