I’ve been an mSecure user since 2011, but I will not be getting a subscription. I’m fed up with all these companies trying to bounce people into paying for things by monthly or yearly subscriptions. If I could buy the next version at a reasonable price (as I did before) l will buy it, but if not, I will find an alternative way to store my passwords.

Pretty good app and I did pay for the lifetime version many years ago. However, since the upgrade some months ago they want me to pay again. That message is in the form of a very annoying pop-up in the bottom left part of the screen. Daily. Horrible! Protonmail now also offers a password manager and it’s included in their email subscription. I’m going to test that, and if it suits my needs I leave mSecure.

Was ooit een van de betere password managers, maar loopt inmiddels hopeloos achter in vergelijk met andere, goedkopere, alternatieven. Inclusief een enkele gratis Open Source oplossing! Eenmaal flink in de buidel getast en gekocht met een zogenaamde “lifetime licence”, komt er na een tijdje een “grote upgrade” waar op opnieuw fors voor betaald moet worden. Heb ik voor versie 5 gedaan, maar nu willen ze dat voor v6 weer. En als het nou een goedkope app zou zijn…. Maar nee, ze willen steeds weer forse bedragen voor een iOS app! Vervolgens zeggen ze ook nog dat de v5 gebruikers alle functies behouden. Maar de werkelijkheid is dat een deel is verplaatst naar de extra licentie. Als je dan toch genoegen neemt met wat functies minder, wordt dat niet geaccepteerd. Ze gaan steeds meer reclame in de app gooien om je maar over te halen toch weer meer te gaan betalen. Reclame voor hun eigen premium versie wel te verstaan, waar wéér hoge bedragen voor worden gerekend. Gewoon dwars over je lijst met accounts heen….. Ik heb hierover geklaagd en het antwoord is samengevat: “Het interesseert ons niet, we willen meer geld verdienen en gaan dit voorlopig niet veranderen” Het gaat bij deze ontwikkelaars dus om je geld en niet om je te helpen je accounts veilig te houden. Ik begin me af te vragen wat ze dan eigenlijk nog meer met je accounts doen. Waarom moet je data eigenlijk perse op hun servers staan? Waarom wordt lokaal opslaan of in iCloud, Dropbox, Box of andere cloud storage niet meer ondersteund? Omdat ze tegen eigen zeggen je data toch gebruiken? Ik weet het niet hoor, maar het gaat ze duidelijk om geld en data is het nieuwe geld….. Er zijn genoeg alternatieven die trouwens wel externe cloud opslag zoals iCloud, Dropbox, Box ondersteunen. Helaas heb ik veel accounts in MSecure staan. Het wordt nog even een klus om over te stappen, dus ik kan helaas niet direct over naar een alternatief. Maar ga je nu beginnen met een password manager? Kies een andere dan deze!

Jammer dat je na een trail periode deze overgaat in een betaalde versie. Jammer maar de app gaat er weer af

I have been a long time user of mSecure, I am very happy I came across this app and started using it many years ago. In the beginning it was just a nice easy app to keep your passwords safe but it has evolved to an absolutely beautiful app to store safely more than only your passwords. When moving to v5 mSecure team made changes (like the option to store backups on their servers in stead of e-mail or i-cloud) but when the people stated that they wanted to continue using other options, mSecure brought those options back better. I like how the team not only listens to feedback but actually does something with that feedback. Today after using version 6 for one day, I opened the App again and notices that with a smile on my face thought : “nice…!!”

I do not like the new mSecure I was forced to buy. The old one worked with icons which I like (Mac lover) Wish I still could use the old one. It was much easier to find what I needed.

Al vele jaren gebruik ik mSecure. Wat ik top vind is dat je voor de Pro-versie maar 1 keer een fee betaald. Dus je weet waar je financieel aan toe bent. Daarnaast werkt de sync (pro-versie) uitstekend. Ik heb naast meerdere comp., ook een iPad, iPhone en Apple Watch en ongeacht waar je het ww op intikt het staat op alle systemen. Kortom een aanrader.

what i like about msecure is the pleasant UI accross different platforms. originally also Windows Mobile. Easy to add accountswith very well configurable password generator. i do have doubts though whether apps and underlying infrastructure are still well maintained. the company cannot give me that certainty. that maxes the score to 3 stairs.

Handige app, ik heb nu voor alles een eigen ww. Maar je hebt maar een paar emailadressen, dus het zou fijn zijn als je die niet elke keer in hoeft te typen en gewoon uit een dropdown kunt kiezen. Dat is wat mij betreft het enige wat ontbreekt.
