PhonoPaper

Sound code scanner

Published by: Alexander Zolotov

Description

PhonoPaper is a camera app for playing pictures with encoded sound (PhonoPaper-codes).
With this app, you can also create your own codes: 10 seconds of sound can be recorded from a microphone and converted into an image.
[ Key features ]
* PhonoPaper does not require access to the network for decoding;
* PhonoPaper code is analogue, so it is not so sensitive to different types of the image distortion (bad camera, dark picture, wrinkled paper, etc.); at least you will hear the "silhouette" of the original sound;
* code can be played in real-time with hand-controlled speed and direction;
* code can be drawn by hand to get some unusual sounds.
[ Examples of usage ]
* voice messages (or pieces of music) on t-shirts, billboards, posters, postcards, goods;
* audio labels for phonorecords;
* audio examples in books;
* secret messages;
* art-experiments.
[ How to use ]
Launch the app, point the camera at the code (tap on the screen to focus if necessary) and smoothly scan the picture from left to right. The code should be parallel to the frame - try to keep the camera level. The black code markers (top and bottom) should fall entirely into the frame. If the application recognizes code markers, you will hear a sound. If you are unable to play the code smoothly, press the record button on the right side of the screen, this will enable automatic scanning.

PhonoPaper Reviews

I liked it, hoping that a reader version will be made one day

The interface needs work, visually. I would take ®️™️Autodesk Inc., ®️™️Adobe software as a model for that portion. one request would be for color option and maybe a intensity option, if you were to make this an App. for sale, would allow smaller file size options. *music songs are under three minutes usually, you want a recording that about the same length duration. Suggest: save as MP3 or MP4 file specified so people are confused with what is meant by audio file / or ANS file via Wi-Fi direct send... does a picture file refer to a video file which has audio and video in tandem? if it’s an audio video file sent ANS WI-FI it becomes unclear how the recipient would open the file unless, they could have a copy of the App. themselves —in my experiment I would send such a file. Only one thing bothered me enough to take away five star rating and that was the mirrored front facing camera option it was too frustrating to get an image that was in front of the camera and line it up. somebody who has it would be extraordinarily frustrated with that; and I also finally found a white button to take a forward facing picture after 20 min. I hope you find the small criticisms used for that you will take them into consideration to improve your worthy product. Thank you for the chance to try your app I would love it if you would produce a reader for those people who want to send picture files with an audio to friends.

Your apps blow my mind! I just got this and ANS, and I’m angry that I didn’t get hip to your work sooner! I hope these apps continue to grow and develop. Because I believe 50 years from now when they look back to the beginning of the touch surface tablet becoming a true expressive musical instrument your name will be mentioned Alexander in the list of names! I want to be clear about something here, I am never, never write reviews for apps. So when I say that you know that I’m not being hyperbolic. Well done Alexander! Please keep up the good work, and thank you for keeping your price is reasonable. As an artist I really appreciate that, apps are a crapshoot on the best of days. All the best joshuaboden.

I'm still messing with it and looks really neat, especially the "Save As Photo" feature. However, that exact feature doesn't seem to work for me...yet anyway. As soon as I "Save" the app crashes to the home screen and nothing is in my photos. I'm on iOS 10 on iPhone 5s so maybe my device is too archaic?

Great experimenting with this
