Description

ABRSM Sight-Reading Trainer contains 155 brand new specially composed pieces of sight-reading for Piano Grades 1 to 5. But, before you can play them you have to unlock them!

Each piece is preceded by a series of games designed to improve your ability to spot the features, patterns and characteristics of the music before you play it. Test yourself and see if you can achieve a three-star score in these fun games:
Rhythm Match - hear rhythms from the piece of Sight-Reading and identify the corresponding notation.
Pitch Patterns - focus on a small section of the music and answer questions about pitches, patterns, fingering and keyboard geography.
Quick Fire Five and What’s the Difference - study the whole piece and answer a series of questions about it.
Learn how to make the 30 seconds of preparation time you have in your exam really count!
Complete the challenges to unlock the pieces and start a practice streak.
Strong sight-reading skills empower musicians to communicate with one another through the language of music, as well as learn new pieces quickly and accurately. Regular practice with ABRSM Sight-Reading Trainer will help you avoid the pitfalls and achieve sight-reading success!

Piano Sight Reviews

Doesn’t work

“Please listen to the rhythm”… Silence.

Sound?!

cotswoldpianist on

I haven’t been able to use it yet as no sound. Reading through the reviews it appears that I can only use sound through headphones?! I’m a teacher so how can I work through this with pupils if we can only listen through headphones? Very frustrating as the app wasn’t free and currently is no use to me…

No sound

Jamessale1 on

I purchased this app with great intention. However, there is no way of listening to the sound? How am I supposed to answer questions on a rhythm being played back to me if I cannot hear it??

Application does not work!

There is no sound when you run the rhythm part. Not sure if anything else works, but just asking for a refund as without sound it’s pretty useless

Not really fit for purpose

The~prof on

I am a teacher, and I thought it would be good to look at this for my students. Not only is the app quite clunky to use and not particularly intuitive, the entire premise is flawed. The rhythm matching is ok - but limited. A more holistic approach to it would help. The pitch matching is just awful. It requires you to memorise the entire passage, then asks you questions on it. This doesn’t match in any way with the way most people sight-read music. It would be so much better if it could listen to you at the piano, something like Simply Piano, and judge that way. I don’t really think this particular method would ‘train’ anyone to sight read music. More focus on relative pitch would be good too, rather than memorising note ranges. The whole experience is sadly disappointing and I would advise spending your money elsewhere.

Don’t buy!

I read the reviews and bought anyway. I’m a piano teacher and thought I’d find enough in it across the different levels it was worth it. There’s no sound which makes it useless. Also there’s a timer on everything which I think would stress out most pupils. I’ve requested a refund.

App won’t play sound

Piano dad 26 on

Absolute waste of money as the app won’t play any sound making it impossible to complete the exercises. Happy to amend review if fixed or developer contacts me with a solution.

Sight reading option is locked

I paid £5 to download the app only to find that the sight reading option is locked.
