“…a powerful music utility that is perfect for getting reacquainted with your favorite tunes.” — John Voorhees, MacStories.net
”…undeniably one of the most powerful and accessible general-purpose players available today.” — Marc Barrowclift, barrowclift.me
Featured in Macworld, MacStories, and Mac & i magazine, Picky is for people particular about their music, giving you full control over how you browse and listen to your albums and songs.
‣ Picky keeps your Artists and Albums lists uncluttered by hiding those with only a few songs – simply adjust the filters to taste.
‣ Queue up tracks to play later: simply swipe to the left on a song until the ‘+’ icon appears and turns solid orange, then let go to queue it.
‣ Use Picklists to quickly play (or queue) groups of songs – like playing an album without its bonus tracks.
‣ Easily sort the main Albums list and artists’ album lists with just a couple taps: by title, release date, duration, or by date added to your library.
‣ Picky lets you easily filter your Songs and Albums lists by genre (or by multiple genres). You can do things like quickly put together a mix by opening the filter, tapping on a few genres, and then closing it and tapping Shuffle.
‣ You can use the Artists and Songs filters to keep singles and one-hit-wonders tucked away, or bring them into focus when you really want to listen to them.
‣ Picky intelligently combines both grouping by artist and by album artist, so you'll always find your songs where you expect them to be. But if you prefer just one of the groupings, you can easily change that with a setting.
‣ Quickly see the list of your currently playing songs by simply swiping up in the Now Playing view.
‣ Quickly search across your entire music library with just a few taps.
‣ Picky is designed for iOS 15 and supports widgets, Dark Mode, Split View, AirPlay 2, iPad trackpads, Context Menus, VoiceOver, headphone remotes, iTunes Match, and Apple Music that has been added to your collection. You can use Picky exclusively or seamlessly switch between it and the system Music app.
Picky: for listeners with refined taste.

Picky Music Player Reviews
Class
Been searching for a music player that is dedicated to playing your collection (ITunes library etc). Whilst there’s some decent apps available, Picky is on another level. Really punchy audio, and it somehow sorts out those sound levels on ITunes, and keeps it consistent between artists, albums, files.
Really Excellent App
Really useful - much nicer than the on-board Apple Music app – lots of little things for example when you look at the tracks on the album you can see more info at a glance than in the Apple app, more search & sorting options etc. too - I definitely recommend it! Jez P
Fantastic App!
Much better to look at and use than the clumsy & buggy stock music app.
Excellent upgrade over the annoying Music app
This is an excellent replacement for the Music app, especially if you have a large library of audio files. I have a lot of radio dramas and the names can be long. In Music, you couldn’t tell them apart if the names were similar because they were truncated to fit. In Picky, there are lists. Lovely, lovey lists. My life is now better.
Hooked by reviews but got a cold shower!
Update: I've heard from the developer, where he promised he'd be working on fixing the issues I mentioned below in my original review ;)
Hi! After several tries with Marvis and Cesium I got attracted to Picky by good reviews, so yesterday paid £1.99 and hoped for the less buggy experience than with the aforementioned. However ...
All initially fine and - respect to the hard work of the developer! No search option nor history though but could live without those. However, very quickly ... a nasty surprise!
It goes like this: I create a queue after adding several tracks from various albums and start playing! All fine but than I feel I don't want to play this one and that one down the line so decide to remove them from the queue and oops, when a track is removed, the currently playing track goes back to the beginning!!! No it's not a one-off (as in Cesium), I remove another track from queue, the currently playing track again skips back to the beginning and starts all over again ... and again and again after each amendment! Beyond annoying! And on top of that there's no way to manually rearrange song order in the queue, as in the native app (and all the others). How very, very odd!? All in all this double super-bug makes Picky the most bizarrely inadequate alternative to the native music app I've tried. Simply unusable. Sorry guys but this leaves me feel cheated and don't know how I could possibly use this unless for a linear, unaltered listening, which to someone with 950 albums and 12,250 songs on my iPhone is simply crippling!
missing files
for some reason this app doesn’t show all my single mp3s but i can see them in other inferior player apps otherwise this app would be a perfect replacement
the email response i got was very matter of fact
The Best Music App I’ve Found!
By far the best thing about Picky is the ease with which it lets you navigate your music if you happen to have an extensive library - something that seems to have become needlessly laborious with the stock music app in recent years. The layout is neat, the interface is user-friendly and the design is simple, to the point and nice to look at; I particularly like how the main play screen incorporates the colours of the currently playing track’s album artwork. The ability to create playlists on the fly is also particularly handy.
The only music player I use any more!
Finally can replace music app!
All I really wanted was the ability to Yasui the screen and see lyrics, for my Japanese lessons, on a larger enough screen which apple removed some time ago.
It would be nice to select the text too and copy and paste or look up on the dictionary.
It would also be nice to air drop music files to the app, but I'm happy with it.
And the dark mode is perfect. Thank you to the developer.
Music App as it should be
Far superior to Apples own music App.
Not syncing
Will not synch to apples music app
Does not play what you select
Will not work without apples music installed so this app is useless. Don't waste your money
