Illegible fonts + anti-experiments = puzzling misstep

billy'n'holly on

I love Conceptis games, but this one aimed for kids and pay-to-play mechanics is a solid FAILURE for this previously-great company. Unfortunately like others have said, penalizing your target audience for experimentation and/or not “picture-perfect hand-eye coordination” means your kids (and we adults) will put this game down quicker than you can say, “I’ll go back to their similar and MUCH MORE FORGIVING titles of Pic-a-Pix or Link-a-Pix. Even the skinny-line block-style fonts will have anyone on their 5” screen-size phones ready to trash this game because you can’t tell if any illegible numeral is a 2, 3, 4, a question-mark, or a currency symbol. And yet thus really shouldn’t surprise me because font readability has been a continual oversight for years, such as “Sum Sudoku” has 3-pixel-high numbers, or “Link-a-Pix” often having tiny yellow numbers against a white background. And all of this leads to the common thread here that ANY mistakes by the player equates to lower score, running out of times/moves, and eventually costing real money because of THIS 1 APP’s focus to make money not upon friendly appeal and good design, but rather punishment via their own unrealistic expectations upon an imperfect gamer. My message to Conceptis is to stick to brain-games and making profit by sticking to good puzzles, rather than wade into the greed-stained depths of loot-boxes & micro-transactions.😓

LOVE it but

I agree that the owl is totally annoying but mostly I want to know WHEN WILL THERE BE MORE LEVELS??? Thank you

Simplified Block-a-Pix, annoying sounds and animations

Perhaps this is the developer’s first foray into the children’s market, so I am not the target audience. but it looks and plays nothing like any other Conceptis game. The idea of solving just a small chunk of the picture over 20 or 30 “rounds” is interesting, but ultimately too easy. Maybe it gets harder later on, but I gave up after completing the second “painting”. I also did not like all the animation between rounds. It took longer to display the animation and changes to score, than it did for me to solve the chunk. There are options to turn off sound effects and music, but you still have to sit through the animations. After the first dozen or so times, the animation has outstayed its welcome. I don’t really know what the developer is going for in this implementation, but I prefer the thoughtful relaxing games they are already known for, versus games with goofy animation and sound effects, where you are penalized for making a mistake or running out of time. I love Conceptis’s other games, but this one is a “delete app”.

There’s a zillion apps out there that are covered in ads and nickel and dime you over everything: clues, an extra few minutes of play, whatever. I have every other game by Conceptis specifically because they don’t use that model — every other conceptis app has a very reasonable model where you get a certain number of free puzzles, and if you want more you pay for more. No ads, no gimmicks, no surprises. It’s a great model! It works! And then there’s whatever this is. M Thanks, I hate it. (Not because it has cutesy features that seem to be aimed at a younger audience. That’s fine. Because I don’t need a puzzle app tracking private information, and I certainly don’t need an app where the amount of money you can spend on in-app purchases has no upper bound, which seems to be the case here.)

Neat logic puzzle

I have been doing Conceptis puzzles for decades now and this type of puzzle is new to me...been having a lot of fun learning new strategies. Nice challenge!!!

Lovely!

Folks need to stop whining. It’s a lovely game, they clearly put a lot of work into it and of course it’s aiming for a different audience than their usual crowd, but that’s ok. Love the bird. And you don’t run out of paint unless you mark the wrong square. But you shouldn’t be guessing with these puzzles anyways.

Tedious, overlong tutorial with annoying sounds and no mute button

What an awful release by an otherwise wonderful developer

Too frustrating for adults.

Definitely not for young kids. Too many bombs, owl gets annoying. Money spent just to advance in the game. I do like the pictures though. Beware, you can ask for a paint hint and get nothing, waisting diamonds.

great idea but
