As a DM I absolutely LOVE it! This app provides me with 3 values simultaneously:
- the tracks themselves are actually very good neutral and authentic (not some Witcher track everyone is using nowadays).
- Ability to apply the sound effects on top of the background tracks.
- Great choice of tracks for every situation - grim, epic, misterious etc.
I really hope the choice of effects will keep growing, as it seems like the main area for improvement to me atm.
Perfect
I literally just got the app, and I am in love. It has the smoothest transition between adventure, combat, and victory music. Some of the best white noise and sound effects I’ve ever heard! I will be sure to use it whenever I play DnD with my family and friends. Again, love the app!
Loving this app
Using it right now for the first time while playing Arkham Horror board game. It has added so much depth and involvement from the squad. You’ll be reading a card and have a drum swell land perfectly on a sentence and have everyone geekin. Superb product. *using Haunted Swamp for Arkham, fits pretty well*
Lots of promise
I look forward to watching this app as it updates but for my needs, there’s still a little left to be desired since my TTRPG games are typically less in these high fantasy scenarios. The City and Forest from the Fantasy Essentials pack start to play into this a little, and the Beach from the Seafarers pack, but I was REALLY hoping for at least a cafe/tavern ambiance that I could use. Sad to see that there wasn’t something like that. Fingers crossed for the future though.
I’ll be using this for a long time
The first time I used this app during a game session my players were pleasantly surprised at how dynamic the soundscapes were in the game. They made tons of positive comments on how cool it was and they overall loved it. This was all done on the free packs but I agree with them whole heartedly and will be purchasing packs soon. If that’s what I can do with the free portions, the additions will be worth it.
Price
7/monthly seems pretty high and it is, but the amount of free content you get is absolutely more than enough for a wide variety of campaigns
Great start — Desperately needs AirPlay
I have used both Syrinscape and RPG Sounds in the past, and eventually settled on just using Shortcuts to trigger various Apple Music playlists.
This app does a lot well, but it really needs AirPlay before it becomes part of my normal gameplay. I have a dual HomePod setup in my game room specifically for ambient sounds, and without the ability to AirPlay, this app feels super lackluster.
Pros: The ‘fading’ between sounds is REALLY well done. I love hitting the Victory button, and the fanfare is added into the music really well at a time that fits perfectly. The “intensity” slider is incredibly interesting, and adds a really nice touch.
Cons: Needs AirPlay. Like, seriously.
Other: It took me entirely too long to realize that the “Location” ambiance was different depending on the scene I was in. A “Tavern” scene would be REALLY welcome as well. Tavern ambiance is probably the most common on that I’m usually playing, and right now it (appears to be) missing.
Best background music app for just about anything
Excellent music composition, multiple different themes and excellent sound effects that you can control to emphasis a crit or creep out your players. Adds a new dimension to tabletop RPG’s (not just DnD). Also makes great background sound to help get into a more creative mindset when writing adventures, short stories or novels. Probably would work great with other forms of art also, but i can’t speak to that. Easy interface and seamless transitions between musical scores. Crazy impressed, especially after meeting the team of musicians and developers at a con and seeing how much effort and sweat went into building this app.
Edit: make sure to download the fantasy starter pack after you download the app. They are both free and well worth the minimal effort required.
As a side note, I hope the one guy who left a 1 star review gets a job soon and stops taking his financial woes out on a team that is offering an excellent FREE product.
Wonderful app
Only thing it needs besides more scenes is a pause button.
Intuitive and Brilliant
I haven’t even used this in a campaign yet and I can already see how much it will add!
This app is incredibly easy to use, the music is catchy without being distracting, it seemly transitions to fit the mood, and the sound effects are perfect for story, exposition and combat!
I do wish they were more sound effects (called “One Shots” in the app, which is a perfect name). things like zapping sounds, freezing sounds, swords clashing, etc..
