The best podcast I’ve found. A well designed app for podcast listeners. It has many options to customize your listening experience. You can make playlists for routines if you listen to certain podcasts regularly. You can prioritize your podcasts, organize them by tagging. Well done!
This app has potential to be the best podcast player out there. The only thing it is so buggy. The dev is active and updates the app but this is my third shot with this app and I drew the same conclusion. I have to move because it’s too buggy
I have been using Podcast Republic for years, previously in Android, and in iOS since March. Since I moved to iOS, I am finding that the app is quite buggy: it shuts down in the middle of episodes; when I resume playing, it starts the episode over and then suddenly “remembers” where I left off; and it often won’t work when I try to use the widget controls, forcing me to open the app and refresh it. These issues have not been resolved with any of the recent updates, including today’s update. This app needs better support with more consistent updates.
So I have had several podcast apps and while the last one I liked quiet a bit this one surpasses them all. It has all the features I want and has a great UI. This is the app for ALL your podcasting needs
I used the app for less than a week. Audio and expected features are okay, not very user-friendly. I’m deleting it because of suspicious activity on my phone. Ever since I installed it, I got frequent “In-app purchases not allowed” alerts: every time I started the app fresh and several times when it wasn’t even open. After deleting it? No such problems. I’m glad I had purchases disabled because who knows what was being attempted. Be cautious.
Question, are podcasts a cutting edge technology? Does it require top tier military expert experience do make a wrapper that caches an RSS feed and streams audio content? I mean its 2024 and I know podcasts are a new concept thats still in its infancy but, actually the opposite is true. So why in the heck, has it been just borderline impossible to just find a simple podcast player that doesnt have more problems, errors and crashes than even the most advanced, bloated and heavy apps that I have tried in the past? With the way my iphone gets alarmingly hot to the touch within seconds of clicking a single pod episode to stream, you'd think theres some extremely heavy lifting going on in the background. Yet i can open safari, goto youtube, and actually load and play a high quality video, and even have it in pip in background while working in any other app, and my phone stays at optimal temperature, no issues. If i attempt that while listening to audio pod on this app, the audio slows, stutters, clicks etc every time i perform an action on phone while in background. I asked around when I first was using overcast and it started behaving strangly, and everyone online told me i needed to be using an app off the "modern podcast player list" and it looked like a well curated list. I have no idea what significance the list has, to me it seems like literally all the worst of the worst podcast player apps. Many of them, like this one, doesnt even have all the features they advertise. And when you ask about it, they just say those features will be in a future update. This app btw only updates 3 or 4 times a year. 😑 Im truly asking, what is this app doing all the time in the background? Why do i have to periodically go into settings and delete the cache? Why, even though i have ALL downloading features disabled, but if i let it play a few hours of pods without clearing cache, i get a notifications of my phone storage being full, and i look and the catch is at like 3gb! Im not even exaggerating, and this is when the 'downloads' section is still empty as it always has been. Even if i had downloaded HQ versions of 3 hour pod, it shouldn't be 3.2gb of data. My data usage on tmobile was over 160gb last month, and i looked at app data usage, 120gb of it was this app alone. Why? What's happening here?
Latest update has taken away my ability to choose which buttons I see. Either that or it has been buried so deep in the settings that I can’t find it anymore. Very, very annoying considering the best feature of this app has always been the user’s ability to customize the display to our individual preferences. Now I have 9 different buttons on my screen when I only need 3 of them. Latest update has also caused playback issues. After listening to a couple of episodes, the fast forward/rewind buttons stop working. So I have to force close. Then when I reopen, the episode starts playing from the beginning for a few seconds before it “remembers” that I’m halfway through the episode. These things seem minor but I drive for a living & I can’t be fooling around with an app while my eyes should be on the road. So now I just can’t use this player anymore while driving.
I was so excited to see the iPhone version of this app. While it’s clearly a step below the Android version, it works very well.
My biggest critiques are, after switching from Android to ios, is that the app is sluggish and now, when going to to popular tab nothing shows up and it freezes the app
