AAC app type to read to make it. Read a word to end the speaking from talking
As a Speech Language Pathologist who works with teachers and students daily, I cannot stress what an improvement this app is on anything that was available previously. Proloquo seamlessly blends principles of several different AAC systems into one, regularly updated app. The vocabulary is robust, and covers a broad age range. It is the first AAC I have used that already contains curriculum based vocabulary for school aged children. This allows it to be better utilised by both teachers and students alike. The app assumes competence and never disadvantages a user by purposefully limiting vocabulary range or type. The free licensing for therapists and first month free, as well as subscription based approach to payment mean that this system can be trialled with a user before committing financially. Previously, families were forking out hundreds of dollars in one go, sometimes discovering a year down the track that another AAC system might be more appropriate for their child. The cost is no more than a Netflix or Spotify subscription and the app can be loaded onto a device that a huge portion of the population already own. App development takes time and costs money, but AssistiveWare have taken the time to learn from past users and previous app flaws in order to build a great product, as well as create resources that are freely available to families and communication partners. They regularly engage with communities who use AAC and ask for feedback in order to continuously improve. I only wish Proloquo had been available at the beginning of my career!
This app is intuitive and packed full of rich pre-programmed language that cannot be deleted so meddling hands who think they know better than expert AAC users and the developers who collaborate with them cannot hide or remove important words they think the person they are supporting won’t need. This app limits gatekeeping of language - yay! We love that this app gives people of different ages who need AAC the chance to explore, experiment with, and use such a broad vocabulary. Too many people do not presume competence. This app assumes that everyone needs and has the potential to use an enormous number of words - and the only way to learn to words is or have access to them… all the time. I love the search function and how you are supported to find and learn the pathway for words you can’t find on your own, I love that you can still add more words to personalise the app to suit individual needs and to keep expanding vocabulary further. The companion app to coach communication partners is superb. And the availability of this app to everyone in the AAC users life is groundbreaking yet so needed. Kudos to AssistiveWare on the creation of this brilliant much needed app.
Extremely easy to learn to use and model use of AAC app - when compared to other AAC apps. The simplicity and elegance of the visual interface means more people around the AAC user are happier to undertake learning and using it. Plus it offers a very powerful vocabulary and many great literacy support features.
Hello thanks for creating this app! I love that you can edit and add your own buttons with ease and that app trains you how to navigate it with the search feature. The only thing I feel that would be a good feature is a favorites tab. An additional coloured tab where u can custom add all the persons high frequency buttons for quick navigation. This would be good for when someone like a support worker or someone who doesn’t know the app needs to use it as well as speed things up for us as parents when using it a a modeling prompt at home for verbal language.
This really helped me and my family to understand my brother thank you very much for the amazing app
The layout is amazing. It has become so much easier to use than the previous app. I work in disability, I am a huge advocate for AAC. Unfortunately in the industry you will always come across those who put “learning AAC” in the too hard basket therefore they don’t model. With how user friendly and organised Proloquo is I may be able to change some minds. I am really excited about using exploring and showing others around me this app. I appreciate all the hard work that was put in.
Downloaded and then no sound, very disappointing and now I can’t cancel my subscription:/
I began using the original Proloquo2go when I was having bouts of expressive Aphasia in college. Now I find it an easier way to work with trauma from my past and to express hidden feelings. I like the new app has a much wider breadth of the vocabulary and is more age-appropriate. I am writing in also to express some frustration because I’m having trouble tapping, the last tab on the app. I’m not sure if anyone else has written in to say the same thing it could just be my phone, but I also wrote this to Express my thanks as well! Thank you!
Don’t get this as a quick help at home on your phone. You’ll waste your money. Can’t even see everything and can’t see to change screens etc.
