Purdue Perennial Doctor Reviews

Hosta

Shows pictures tells you problems but not cures. Sent me to a page that had nothing to do with hosta plants😡

Love this!

The only reason my garden is surviving is because of this and the Purdue Annual Doctor app. My Black-eyed Susan is looking much better since I identified that it had downy mildew. Most definitely worth the 99¢ !!

This app is written by two leading experts in plant pathology and entomology. So you’re getting top-notch information in a package format that is really easy to use. You get excellent photos and really good summaries and control suggestions. In many cases, disease symptoms look the same regardless of host so to not have every host/disease photo included is not that big a deal. This has been quite helpful to me several times already.

Very helpful app!

I had a problem with both my hostas and daylilies. Standing in my garden, I compared the app photos to my plants. Very quickly I determined the problem and how to address it. That alone was worth the $0.99 to me!

A Good Tool for the Price

I have purchased and used all of the Purdue plant doctor apps in my job as an Extension horticulture educator. I am very pleased with them for the most part. I agree, in part, with the previous reviewer's concern that a specific disease of a specific plant was not illustrated. Prospective buyers should bear in mind that there are hundreds and hundreds of perennial plants on the market in the US; trying to collect pictures of every pest of every plant would be an extremely difficult task, and would expand the current file size from 190 MB to close to 1 Gigabyte!! For $0.99, this is a very useful tool; I've spent over $75 for full-fledged books that contain less pest information than this app has. And to the previous reviewer: I'll admit to having gone from these Plant Doctor Apps to the internet to get further information or more pictures. This app does not contain EVERYTHING; no app, no website, and no textbook possibly can!

Not that great

Working in a retail nursery I was really hoping for an app that showed distinctive pictures of perennials diseases and insect damage. Instead you get pictures of diseases on plants that mostly aren't the perennial you are researching. For instance, if you want to look at crown rot on hosta, you only get a pic of crown rot on bell flower...which really isn't helpful. To me it is just as easy to google the problem you are seeing and find it through image search. Not worth the 99 cents.

Everything from the pest, damage caused, plants affected, weather good or bad pest, and their control. Id of the problem or disease is easy by searching parts of plants or by name. Everything I was looking for to help me with garden problems. Pictures are closeups of the disease or pest. I was not disappointed, and will purchase their other apps.
