The RAINN app gives survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones access to support, self-care tools and information to help manage the short- and long-term effects of sexual violence.
Find Support. The app’s “Hotline” feature can connect you directly with one-on-one support from a trained support specialist on RAINN’s National Sexual Assault Hotline via phone or online chat. It’s free, confidential and available 24/7. You can also chat with other survivors in our peer-to-peer HelpRoom.
Practice Self-Care. The app’s “Self-Care” section contains exercises to help you take a moment for yourself as you heal. They include a Mood Tracker to help you reflect on how you’re feeling and figure out the best ways to care for yourself; relaxing visuals from The Monday Campaign to help you destress; and audio exercises from Headspace for calming meditation.
Learn More. The app’s “Learn” section includes helpful information on sexual violence topics, finding and giving support, and healing. You can also hear from survivors offering their own real-life stories of hope and healing.

RAINN FAQ
Is RAINN free?
Yes, RAINN is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is RAINN legit?
🤔 The RAINN app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
RAINN is good in theory but if you are in dire need of someone to talk to, don’t use it. I’ve been waiting ALL FREAKING DAY TO TALK TO SOMEONE!!!!!! It’s ridiculous. Every time I try to use it to chat with someone there is at least an hour wait and I wait and wait and wait and nothing. I’m still just freaking waiting!!!! It will say I’m second in line so I don’t refresh the window, navigate away, close out or anything. I don’t want to lose my place in line. I just can’t wait anymore and I really need to talk to someone. It’s frustrating and makes someone who is already upset even more upset. I don’t know what the answer is, but that’s not my problem. That’s your problem. You need to fix it if you’re going to offer something like this for people in crisis.
The name of this organization is too much
The people who created the name forced their way into creating an acronym that would match up with another entirely different RAIN. That way, they can hide which rain they are talking about. Make it rain is most commonly used to describe the down pour of money from the stock market and it’s also used in basketball. I think the name of the place is vulgar and distasteful. It is basically repeating the same word over and over and over just to make it form the word rain. And if a business is going to do something like that then I’m hesitant to trust them. I’ve called in before and because I’m a male, and I spoke to a women, I didn’t get any sort of help. She was as idiotic and rude and the opposite of what a person should be like. So I’ll try this app and see if I can get anywhere.
great resource, horrible tech
as other people have said, i keep getting kicked out of the queue to chat to someone, and getting placed at the end again. the few times that i have been able to get into the chat, i have only been able to send a few messages until the app quits unexpectedly and i have to start telling my story to someone all over again. every single time i try to use the rainn chat, i end up staying up half the night (or all night) just trying in vain to get through tech issues, but ultimately am either unable to get to the chat at all, or unable to speak to anyone long enough to have any answers. calling the hotline number is not an option for me, because my area code gets me automatically routed to a rape crisis center in my home state, the staffers of which have instructed me not to call the rainn number because this rape crisis center does not serve people out of state. i am frustrated because the tech issues both surrounding the chat function and with automatically redirecting phone calls mean that i cannot actually utilize the resources that rainn provides. i know rainn is a good resource but the tech issues make it feel like it is being dangled in front of me, perpetually just out of reach. it feels frustrating and wounding to prepare myself to confide in someone and ask if my experiences were normal or not, only for tech issues to repeatedly get in the way, and to result in an emotionally charged, sleepless, and yet still fruitless night.
Waiting forever
I was previously on their site but I kept having to exit out of google which kept cancelling me being in line, so I downloaded this app. I start my line and I waited about an hour with my phone on the app and only moved one place but when I click to save my spot and notify me when it’s my turn, I have a 50% chance of it keeping me in the line and moving up or taking me out of the line when I open the app back up. I haven’t ever closed the app though and yet it will still kick me out of line. I’ve been trying for 9 hours just to talk to someone for 15-30 minutes
Put on the back burner.
I waited in the chat waiting room forever, I finally made it to 3rd in line but the app keeps messing up and pushed me to 11th. I need help and it keeps doing this to me, is this some sort of sick joke?
Sparse
Not a great resource - when I tried locating help near me a pop up announced nothing found…even when choosing Los Angeles and the state of Cali. Bugs need fixing. Also the stuff to read: not much of it and not much too it. I challenge you to make this the resource we need. I came for help and got Pinterest level suggestions
Good place to learn about treatment, but not great with actual counseling
I want to start off by saying I think RAINN is very helpful. I’ve gotten a lot of information on how to process and recover from what I’ve gone through, and it’s helped me a lot. However, I tried to chat with someone via text because I felt more comfortable that way and I was put on hold. I understand that may happen but I was 15th in line, and when I got to 9th, they pushed me back up to 10th. I then tried to call the hotline and was met with someone who seemed like they were half paying attention and sounded like they were talking to me across the room. I hung up after a minute because I felt like they didn’t care and I kept having to repeat myself.
I appreciate what RAINN does. They’re one of the only good resources I’ve found for this type of thing. But in terms of contact with actual people, it’s not great. Being put on hold and then getting in touch with someone who doesn’t care feels so crappy and makes me think twice before reaching out to someone again.
Four Stars for Being There
Wish I could give it five stars. Articles and resources are wonderful. Unfortunately I am not in a position where I can speak openly on the phone, and so I’ve tried the chat option for support. Never once have I gotten though. I wait and wait and then it will just disconnect. I’ve tried many times.
Please fix
I really like this app because I can disclose to someone who will give me professional advice. However when I’m in the chat getting help I’ve gotten kicked out. Then I have to wait again and talk to someone new and start my story over again.
It Keeps Glitching
I’m not sure if there’s something wrong with my phone or if it’s the app itself, but every time I tried to join the HelpRoom I get kicked and it tells me the staffer isn’t available. I have tried to delete and redownload the app all day, and it’s still not working and I’m not sure where to report it so I’m hoping I can get help from here. Other than that the app is great, but I primarily wanted it for the HelpRoom.
