Free version makes listening a painful punishment for not paying $50

TRWP122 on

At nearly $50 a month this is out of reach for the average person who needs help with reading. Seems they are out to take advantage of people who generally do not have an extra $600 a year to spend in order to listen to a book that they are unable to read due to some kind of disability. It is shameful how much they charge but what is even more shameful is their free version and how they pretty much harass you literally every paragraph (not exaggerating) into buying the premium subscription. The first few paragraphs are beautiful has a nice voice, pronounces everything correctly and then all of a sudden everything stops, and it asks you to buy the subscription. When you don't, suddenly there is the oldest most ridiculous version that starts reading for you. No, your book is being read by some 1990 computer voice that you got free from your computer cannot pronounce even the most common English word. The free reading extension on chrome is 1000 times better and though it might say an unusual word incorrectly, this thing here is ridiculous. You're literally feel like you're listening to someone who just almost learned English yesterday. It seems that they deliberately make it so horrible and uncomfortable that they think they're going to force you to buy their subscription. And then the next paragraph is read again in the nice voice that pronounces everything correctly, the stops again, the popup appears and want you to subscribe. you click no and as punishment the crappy voice re-reads the paragraph you just heard. Now, get to hear the next paragraph and the nice voice is back, read the paragraph and then the pop-up is back. If you say no to the subscription, you get punished again with the re-reading by the illiterate junkyard robot. Does a nice voice comes back and reads the next paragraph, again the pop-up again punishment by the crappy robot voice, and this keeps going on and on and on. You make very little progress through your book. It is a horrible sales tactic and because of it, I wouldn't trust giving this company a penny let alone $50/mo. Anyone company that puts someone through that insanity cannot be trusted with your cc number.

This app is AWFUL

This is an awful app. It lags and doesn’t work well. I was charged for the month because I forgot to cancel my subscription, then when I opened it again after a couple of days it asked if I wanted to reinstate my subscription? It had not been cancelled! The auto photo taking is awful, it doesn’t recognize the page. Even the manual option is terrible. The voices don’t pronounce words correctly. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

All Features Subscription Only

Made me go through 20 minutes of setup and then only after that told me that almost every feature that would have made this app remotely usable was subscription-only.

Not worth the money at all

Chrisj0311 on

The page scanner is awful. You will hold it so only a the page you want can be seen and then it somehow grabs 1/3 of the other page and distorts it making it unusable. Then once to finally scan the pages you want it to read, the app randomly closes out on you every few minutes and you have to try to find where you were again. I have another app that scans pages and turns it into perfectly good PDFs that no other app has an issue with, but when I try to import those into this app, it thinks it’s not a PDF. So in summary, for $50 a month you get an app that can’t scan pages without major issues, won’t import PDFs as it says it does, and crashes every few minutes. TRASH! 🗑️

Waste of time and money

Yippityyappity on

Don’t waste your time here. First off let’s point out that you’re all is one of the more expensive apps of its kind that offers the least. Only a hand full of voices none of which are AI anything but at least none of them are those robot voices either. Next your platform is basic and rudimentary it’s like the MySpace of apps except I can’t modify it to look pretty how I want and for $50 dollars a month no thanks. You’re scan function is very smooth so kudos for that however you have an option to continue having the voice to read to you and you not be in the app it’s self. Well in my experience you it will work for a minute or two then stop. Go back in hit play again work for another sentence or two then stop and then go back in and it will start all over from the top….. yea for $50 bucks a month this is trash not even with the free trial.

Fine but It doesn't have enough diversity of voices😫

It doesn't have enough diversity of voices, it doesn't have any with a Spanish accent, it's very difficult to hear class notes with English or Indian accents. I would appreciate it if there was more variety of voices.

Too Much $$

DeanDouglas on

I really enjoyed this app but it quickly gave me a pay wall. In order to use most of the features it was $50 a MONTH? As a student I was really hoping this would work without being so much because its one of the few PDF reading apps available and it is a good app. It has helped me a ton with reading documents since I work full time but now I only get the siri voice and have no access to any additional features without paying $600 a year -_-

Stupid Subscribtion

I have to pay for speed!!! Frick this! Also, the free voice is just bad and does not work.
