rekordbox - DJ App & DJ Mixer

It’s so disappointing that there’s such a severe lack of UX/UI processes within this company. You charge a premium for your hardware and then this is the app you push out. Unbelievable.

I required a dj program for iOS. I naturally assumed Rekordbox would had been the go to app. I could not be more wrong. I hope the developer for this app check out Djay Pro and learn how to make an app. I have faith they’ll get on top of this but it has a long way to go. Until then, there’s zero reason to use this app when far superior dj apps already exist.

I was looking forward to the release of this version in the hope that we’d see something more in line with Djay Pro AI. Unfortunately it wasn’t, yet? I’ve DJ’d since the days of vinyl only. I’ve been happy to embrace new technologies, and because Djay Pro has been so well developed, I happily gave it a go. I was hoping I could ditch it for Rekordbox on iOS, but unfortunately it’s not even close, yet? Pioneer DJ have the club/festival/professional scene wrapped up, however there’s a massive market for tablet/mobile devices. Djay Pro AI is well developed in this area. I don’t need to list the features I’d like to see because I’m sure Pioneer already knows what Djay Pro offers. I can only hope the release of this version marks a transition for Rekordbox into the world of DJ’ing on tablets and mobile devices?? It’d be good to see if there’s a roadmap of what Rekordbox hopes to achieve in future releases. One last thing - Beatport integration please 🙏

Waveform zoom is incredibly unintuitive. I still cant work out how to do it reliably. Plus I want to zoom while a track is playing. The portrait / landscape modes are novel but annoying on an iPad because you have to go portrait to grid tracks and connect to laptop for sync. I use a cover and a stand. In portrait stands don’t work and power cables need to be moved. Please lets have grid/sync mode accessible in landscape as well. I’ve transferred some of my library over to test. I love how I can update song info and tags!! I can even do that in landscape mode for songs that have not been transferred. However, after syncing those changes did not seem to be reflected on my laptop. So, either you shouldn’t be able to update tags on songs not on the iPad or the sync doesn’t work for them. The related tracks feature seems really powerful too. So props for that. I like the idea of having one library which I can groom on my iPad or my laptop and sync. I love the idea of not having to use iTunes/Music at all.

About a year ago I ran this app and it was absolutely fine, it would connect to my hardware, sync with my PC, and worked a treat. Now, it has been completely ruined with endless premium pop-ups which, even if you pay for premium, still prevent you from connecting to your hardware. If you rotate your device, for example, it will display a pop-up, pause your music, and it takes three taps are to be able to continue. This also resets your playback position. This is completely unserious software, completely unsuitable for professional use, which, after already spending thousands of dollars on professional hardware to use the app with, is ridiculous. Thousands of dollars of equipment isn't enough, they also want my 20 bucks a month, which even if you pay, still won't make anything work.

So pioneer has finally made this available on iPad 1 star for that. But otherwise now I can’t select songs on my iPad using the Rekordbox iOS app anymore so I’ve lost that feature. And to make matters worse you need to pay $79AUD a year to get basic features like precueing. I’m already paying $360USD a year for the cloud subscription and it’s not even included. Greedy and ridiculous. Pick up your game Pioneer!

This app is terrible. I linked it to my Soundcloud account in hope to mix using my Soundcloud songs and when I sorted the songs by BPM in the app it permanently changed my ACTUAL Soundcloud playlist and sorted my real Soundcloud playlist by BPM. So now my entire playlist is completely and permanently jumbled around and I can’t find a way to put it back to normal. Rekordbox, please improve this app!

It’s been over a year since the iPad Pro was released and there’s still no ipad app 👎🏻 Friends can use rekordbox on their 5 year old surface tablet but the iPad Pro with m1 chip still just gets the iphone version for some reason?
