Description

Rogue's Tale is a single player turn-based dungeon crawling game with some RPG elements. It was published on PC in 2012 and it has been regularly updated since then.
The game takes place in a place called Frostmourn Keep and its underlying dungeons located in the World's End Mountains. The goal is to overthrow the current king and become the new king.
There's dozens of talents and spells to build your character with, before their untimely permanent deaths. There's also a heritage system where you can unlock buffs that affect all future attempts.
Note that this game is hard. Every time you tap on the screen and make an action, a bad roll of the dice can kill you right there or lead you to a path that is no longer viable, or the situation is only recoverable if your next few actions are played correctly. If you have not played games like this before, there is a very high chance that you will not make it through the first dungeon, and in fact many lives are lost in the first level. Even the very first move that you make in this game can get you killed.
There is, however, a casual difficulty level that is recommended for new players to unlock crafting, stash boxes and the recently added collectible card game. It's possible to spend a hundred hours just by collecting crafting schematics and cards while completing some of the easier heritages and learning game mechanics in preparation for normal difficulty.

Since the last update I’m unable to change the characters gender Also how come equipping something doesn’t identity it? Why is it so expensive to stay an an inn or identity items? What about identify scrolls? Do they exist? I can never afford to reset the dungeon or identify to get any money for items

When it comes to mobile roguelikes, for me the bar is set by Pixel Dungeon, mainly due to its overall mechanics, UI and controls, all buttery smooth and flawless. As far as Rogulike features and fundamentals, Rogue’s Tale seems to check all the boxes, but as a mobile port, it lacks the smooth interface and mechanics of games like Pixel Dungeon: no map zooming/dragging, no movement pathfinding, inventory opens by tapping right 15% of screen, easily hit when trying to move right, inventory is a bit clunky, have to open inventory to pickup objects, no ability to swap weapon outside of inventory, etc. Thes are just some of the UI issues that really hold the game back from being great. Not sure if there are plans for improvements but really hoping some of these can be addressed. As a Roguelike, it’s really challenging and will likely turn off all but the most serious RL players. On non-casual mode, expect to die early and often. Every step requires extreme caution, even when things seem to be going well; death is literally around the next corner.

I love this game

This game is fantastic. I’ve logged almost 300 hours on it through steam and bought it as soon as I noticed it was also out for iPad. Please understand this game is fun but can also be very punishing at times. - If you meet the wrong enemy when you aren’t prepared, it can be the end of your run. - There is no real save/reload feature, it is an iron-man type game (no save scumming allowed). - The enemies level with you so the stronger you are the stronger they are. *It can be a good strategy to try and stay a lower level as long as you can to acquire money and equipment. - You will die again and again but things will start to make sense over time. - Playing on easy mode (don’t hurt me) allows you to use pre made characters. Playing on normal mode starts you off with less but allows you to earn heritages over time. - If you get frustrated you can google for online guides that can be found on steam. For how to acquire pets, which heritages are worth getting, and how to build the character you want. To the game developers, thank you for all of the blood, sweat, and tears you have put into the game. Thank you for all of the dlc and the updates. I love this game!
